My big dish satellite system developed a severe static problem. We had a wind storm, which jammed a lawn chair under my 10 foot dish, disabling the ability to switch satellites, and I thought the severe static problem I have been experiencing on some stations may be caused by needing a dish re-alinement.

I'm getting full signal strength and tweaking the position of the dish does not alleviate the problem.

I did a quick flick through my channels, and, for instance, I have perfect reception from one satellite, but the ones East or West of it have the static problem: maybe it's not an alinement problem?

As well, the polarity of the good reception channels versus the channels with the static problem was not consistent.

However, today, I realized that the problem is analog related...

Showtime1 West on GO 15 has terrible static, while the same program on Showtime1 West on GO 101 has perfect reception. Digital reception is fine, but something went wrong on the analog side.

My 4DTV receiver is made by General Instruments.

Can you guys help me out here?

Some sparklies/Severe audio static

My video is somewhat "impaired". but the audio static gets to the point where it's unbearable, and we either switch channels, or go to bed if it's that time of day.

The static on the "bad channels" is not continuous. Larry King is on right now: some segments are loud and clear, then they switch scenes, and the static is awful. The same when they break to a commercial: one will be fine, and the next is full of static.

Etc.

The static problem is very distinct and directly associated with the signal coming in.

It's not like that I have a static problem when the furnace kicks in, nor our water pump, or any other source of electric interference.

Basically, the audio static is tied to the video feed. It's difficult to explain, I hope I'm doing a good enough job of it, but using Larry King as an example, he'll be talking to somebody loud and clear, then when the program switches to the person he's talking to, it's 50% audio static.

Off, on: on, off. On, off: off, on. I'm having a hard time figuring this one out...

Here's a couple of thoughts for you. The first thing I'd try is to slightly push and pull on the bottom of the antenna while there's static and see if that helps. If it does, then the lawn chair may have somehow loosened up the declination setting and it needs to be reset. If that doesn't help, I'd then check if it's only clear analog or VCII analog or both causing problems. The channels you mentioned are VCII analog. If it just occurs on the VCII channels, it may be a module problem. I'd then go to "Options"-"System Settings"-"Audio" menu on your receiver. There you'll find where you can change your audio settings like mono/stereo, bandwidth, subcarrier, etc. Maybe you'll be able to isolate exactly where the problem is coming from. Good Luck.
