There was a story on the Sabres website about this.
In short, the team had no plans on televising the west coast road trip (because the MSG ratings are not good for the late night games) and gave Rick Jenneret a two week vacation, one thing he asked for to remain the voice of the Sabres. So for the radio calls of the game Kevin Silvester (Sabres TV intermission host) did the Phoenix game, Curt Keilback (former Jets/Coyotes PxP) did the two games in Canada and Paul Hamilton from the Sabres radio flagship did the Anaheim game on radio. I believe Harry Neale still traveled with the team.
Once the team got hot in January, fans requested that those games be televised, but Jenneret had the time off and the team did not contract for any production staff for a telecast. So they negotiated with the NHL and the home teams to allow their game telecasts to be sent back to MSG-Buffalo. The Anaheim game telecast came from Prime Ticket, Coyotes from FSArizona, the Calgary game was from TSN and the Edmonton game from Rogers Sportsnet.
