Not sure if they are for real, or BSing.. but lots of people are skeptical however ("seeing is believing" after all) ;)

So who da heck are they - any clues anyone?

And / or are they for real?

..or what do you know about it or about them:

http://www.worldchannels.tv/

Sure lots of good words and promisses....

I have talked with them, they look to be doing what Globecast is doing.

I believe they are for real, it will be interesting to see what their lineup is.

Time will show i guess, but for now they are showing those countries there at their web site:

U.S.A.
Australia
England
France
Germany
Italy
Japan
Russia
South Africa
Ukraine

hehe.. are those countries where they are planning to have it available.. or the countries whose programming they are planning to be showing..? :)

I am wondering if is they plan to use DVB MPEG-2 format in the clear or they want you to buy the receiver get the channel free, and our receivers are not compatible with their signal format?

I am thinking how did they gets the broadcast rights from some English speaking countries?

It would be nice to get Sky News,BBC-1 and 2 and many others stations that may be on but I am very doubtful about this whole thing. :no

Do you know what satellite they will be on?

If its in the clear, there really is only 2 formats to use
DVB-which we have
DCII-which 4DTV needs

Does anybody know or heard of what DVB-HDU is?

Another thing, Iceberg, I don't mind generally but it would definitely help if the *original* thread had at least as helpful title than the one just closed. Thanks for the pointer though.

From the equipment link at the bottom of the page...

>> Equipment

The WorldChannels satellite system is called the DVB-HDU. It consists of a 26-inch satellite dish, powerful LNBF and a common interface capable satellite receiver with remote control. The satellite receiver in the system is nicknamed "C-4". The C-4 will receive MPEG-II signals from the WorldChannels satellite and convert them to a perfect digital picture on your television. The C-4 has the capability to be upgraded in the near future to accept MPEG-4 and HDTV signals. All WorldChannels regular channels will be free, without monthly charge. But the C-4 will also make pay movies and events available at affordable prices. Imagine watching Gladiator in Japanese or Italian. Or Formula One car racing in French. Soon, you will not need to imagine. WorldChannels will make it a reality.

Although they don't explain what HDU is, It sounds like either a type of encryption or a different LNB.

Maybe simply "Home Delivery Unit". Maybe C-4 is for "Coolsat 4000" (in addition to being a type of explosive). That would be sneaky. ;)

But then again, I doubt the Coolsat 4000 "has the capability to be upgraded in the near future to accept MPEG-4 and HDTV signals". :)
