Browns WR Stallworth hits, kills Fla. pedestrian

Donté Stallworth: NFL receiver Donté Stallworth's accident victim Mario Reyes was 'family man' -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

The accident seems to have taken place in the middle of a 4 lane highway with a median in the middle. Why was the pedestrian crossing this road in the first place?

yeah that's the highway i use daily. extremely dangerous to cross no matter what time it is. and it must be what salsa said about the fishing. you saw yourself, what else is there to do in that area except drive or fish? i've also seen a few on a bicycle.

WOIO in Cleveland just broke into the NCAA broadcast and reported the same thing.....

Some sites reporting anon leaks that Stallworth was just over the legal limit.

DUI manslaughter is 15 years max, Leonard Little only got 90 days 10 years ago when he did the same thing.

Miami News, Fort Lauderdale News, Florida News & Weather Channel 7 Fox Miami WSVN-TV - Stallworth's blood alcohol level over legal limit during fatal collision

i wouldn't put too much on what wsvn7 has to say. these people call urgent news a firefighter bringing down a cat from a tree.

but if it is true this will be very bad for Donte. he'll be suspended by the NFL, do some jail time and will probably be sued by the victims family

Unfortunate news if true.

Not to say being "just over the limit" is not wrong, but I got to believe this was still just an accident.

From my understanding, you can be technically "over the limit" by drinking just 1 beer in less than an hour.

The problem is that he was just over the limit at 7AM. I wonder how far he would have been over the limit just an hour or two earlier.

great point jag72. he was out all night and who knows how much he was drinking but, we really don't know .

True. I forgot this happened at 7am. Damn that's early... or late.
In my experience 7-8am work traffic speeds the most. If you dont you get run over and the police close their eyes to it. If they didnt they would have to arrest everyone on the road.

This is tragic for all involved and I pray for his family along with Stallworth and his family. They all need our prayers because it is very difficult for all involved. Yes the Reyes family is w/o a father but the Stallworth family is probably going to be w/o there's as well. Both families lost their bread winner which is even harder. Finally DS has to live with all the people he has now hurt. That's a hard pill to swallow.

Maybe he will be a lesson that saves a lot of lives because some people will take his example as a wake up call. Derrick Thomas, LB at Kansas City was killed driving to the Superbowl years ago. Him and another passenger were killed while the one guy that lived was the only one with his seat belt on. While this was a tragic event, it caused many people to wear their seat belts. One of them happen to be the wife of the Chiefs owner who notoriously never wore her seat belt. A few months after their deaths, she was in an accident that had she not been wearing her seat belt would have undoubtedly killed her. We never know how one man's death or mistake may have an impact on many others so there may be a lesson here for everyone. Hopefully we will learn.

The traffic there is MINIMAL on weekends because that is coming from the night club/restaurant district...ESPECIALLY at 7am. I have no idea what your point is.

me either. if there are two people that know about the traffic down here it's you and I. during weekends especially at that hour there's no traffic at all.

People get killed everyday by drunks. 4 teenagers going to pick up a pizza just got killed not far from my house, while waiting for the light to change, by a lady that was 3 times over the limit. The truly sad thing was that the cops were called for a disturbance at a residence involving this woman. They told her not to drive, but couldn't arrest her, because she was in a private residence. She promised not to drive. Shortly after the same two cops responded to the accident scene. She hit them going 80 MPH!

My point is that this doesn't serve as any lesson to anybody. This women had prior alcohol related offenses. As long as their is alcohol, somebody will drive drunk.

This just seems extra stupid when it involves people who can afford drivers to chauffeur them, like professional athletes.

:up

You know if I go out and have just one beer, my wife drives home. Plus having a CDL, my BAC is 0.04%, can't take any chances.

I read about this in the paper yesterday, and it literally made me sick to my stomach.

Being the father of a 15 year old girl, this really hits home to me. :(

Scary isn't it. They were just going to pick up a pizza. Like I said, there won't be any lessons learned here, it will happen again.
