Im on Vacation, so I finally decided to sit down and do a 2D and 3D calibration, and it took about 5 hours
Reason is, for anyone thats never seen one done, the 3D portion is a pain in the ass because the glasses have to go over the meter and getting it set right just sucks. As suspected, the 3D mode on the Panny was not great at all, but Im hoping now it'll look a bit nicer. THX mode is quite nice, but Custom results in a better image to me after using a meter, generator, and it's easy Pro menu. It's so nice not having to jump in and out of the service menu.
I recently changed my wiring around, I have an HDMI cable going from the HR34 to the GT, and a digi coax going to the Marantz for audio. My Blu player has 2 HDMI outs, so I use one for video to the GT, and one for bitstream audio to the Marantz.
I calibrated HDMI 2 for the Blu player with the generator, then carried over the same settings to Custom on the Directv input, then hooked up the generator and tested the grayscale/color/gamma. The settings, as they should, carried over from Custom on HDMI 2 to Custom on HDMI 1 perfectly. So, if you ever get it calibrated and then add a new source, you can carry over without issue if it's Custom.
3D grayscale result; it was real real red in Warm 2 and THX mode before I started in Custom
