Bought a TC-P65GT30

Father in law could not make it over, but after realizing my current mount holes would not work with the new one, I went ahead and got the D7000 off the wall so I could get all that crap worked out. Got the brackets on the tv and the mount on the wall.

Do some wire organization Fri night, and hopefully he will come over to help me hang it. Cant do it tomorrow, wont be here for much of the night.

Got it mounted. Hugo 3D was epic, period. Gotta get the cables managed, but the build quality is excellent. Id say the panny has more banding and IR than the samsung, but its contrast ratio easily wins over the Samsung, and gives a lot of pop to the image. Im also very impressed by THX mode.

Yeah, been thinking about one of those where you have the box behind the set and then a box down for cables and all. Was not a problem until the wife informed she wanted it up higher...

Set looks real good, Im very impressed with just THX mode.

Im still very impressed with this display. Watched In Time with the lights off, blacks are excellent and stable, a lot of pop. With these 2011 models Panasonic added frame interpolation but its not available in THX mode. However, people had reported that sending these displays 1080p/24 and setting their 24p mode to 60hz (pulldown) was very smooth.

This is how Im running mine, and what I think Panasonic is doing in the pulldown maneuver is using some slight undefeatable interpolation. When I send 1080p/24 from the Oppo, and set the GT's 24p direct in at 60hz, the motion is smooth as butter, not like SOE, and looks great. Whatever they are doing here I like it.

Settled on brightness of 53 and sharpness of 30 using test patterns. After reading calibrator comments, turned color down to 47 and it looks good, as well as contrast 75 still. Great blacks.

At 290 hours, IR has not been an issue and my mll is 0.0044fL. Id expect another drop after more hours, just looking at calibrator comments, regardless, 0.0044fL is very nice for dark room viewing IMO.

Ansi contrast has been around 4800 to 1 consistently, so its also very good. The 2012's are down in the 0.003fL range, so anyone looking to buy, take a gander at the ST50/GT50 :)

Im on Vacation, so I finally decided to sit down and do a 2D and 3D calibration, and it took about 5 hours :)

Reason is, for anyone thats never seen one done, the 3D portion is a pain in the ass because the glasses have to go over the meter and getting it set right just sucks. As suspected, the 3D mode on the Panny was not great at all, but Im hoping now it'll look a bit nicer. THX mode is quite nice, but Custom results in a better image to me after using a meter, generator, and it's easy Pro menu. It's so nice not having to jump in and out of the service menu.

I recently changed my wiring around, I have an HDMI cable going from the HR34 to the GT, and a digi coax going to the Marantz for audio. My Blu player has 2 HDMI outs, so I use one for video to the GT, and one for bitstream audio to the Marantz.

I calibrated HDMI 2 for the Blu player with the generator, then carried over the same settings to Custom on the Directv input, then hooked up the generator and tested the grayscale/color/gamma. The settings, as they should, carried over from Custom on HDMI 2 to Custom on HDMI 1 perfectly. So, if you ever get it calibrated and then add a new source, you can carry over without issue if it's Custom.

3D grayscale result; it was real real red in Warm 2 and THX mode before I started in Custom

Not that I know of, only a color fix for custom mode and fluctuating brightness.

Thx mode does a nice job in 2d and 3d but these plasmas drift pretty good, so that mode is only gonna be good so long.

Doing 2d calibration on most tv's is easy for me with the gear I have, 3d is just a whole nother issue and pain in the butt.

Did a little checky check at 577 hours, and touched the set up in Custom. Still has a great image, and as expected, the MLL dropped again with more hours. No IR issues so far either.
