Bold Predictions for the 2009 NFL Season

Lets see....kinda early but I guess that why they will be bold. :D

1. The 49ers will win the NFC West....which brings us to...

2. Michael Crabtree will be the NFL Rookie of the Year...and once again some team close will look like fools.

3.The Cowboys will finish no better than 8-8.

4. This years sleeper teams, Chiefs and Packers.

This years "sleeping team" - The Detroit Lions.

Just once I wish I could be wrong about the Lions....

a few brief moments of lucidity in my lifetime. Even then, it was the ease of their schedule, and Barry Sanders, that brought them out of the coma. That's why Barry retired, the team had flat lined again.

Iceberg - The Lions invent new ways to lose on a weekly basis. At this point, I'll be happy if they are still in the game at the end of the first quarter. Last year they were down 21 pts. at the end of the first quarter almost every week.

oh I know. While the metro Detroit folks were blacked out, I was one of the "lucky few" to watch them on TV via the Marquette, MI Fox station (WMQF) which is now no more (owner went belly up)

Hey...I can say I got to see the game to make them 0-16 ;)

Guaranteed to happen:

One player will get involved with a serious law-enforcement issue.
One player will get sued by a woman claiming sexual assault.
One player will be arrested for DUI.
None of them will be suspended.

And all on one team. The Bengals. LOL :D

I have Sunday Ticket so I could watch all them, but I won't.

My predictions:

Redskins will win the NFC East.

Bengals will win the AFC North.

They will play each other in the Super Bowl and tie. LOL :D

*YAWN* Ok, I am awake now. What was I talking about?

1. The AFC North will only have 1 team make the playoffs this year. 2 will come from the AFC East and AFC South.

2. Every team in the NFL will win at least once.

3. The Jets will win less games than the Browns. Firing Mangini will look like a mistake for the Jets.

4. The Houston Texans will make the playoffs. Matt Shaub and Andre Johnson will be the most potent QB/WR tandem in the AFC.

5. The AFC West will be the weakest division in the league for the umpteenth year.

6. The Falcons will win the NFC South over New Orleans and Carolina.

7. The Cardinals will repeat as division Champs, putting to rest any post Super Bowl letdown talk.

8. The Tampa Bay Bucs will win less games than the Detroit Lions. Mark it down.

What makes you think the Jets would be better off with Mangini? What are you basing that on?

Sandra

Well, take the overall talent on both the Jets and Browns and any logical person will tell you that the Jets probably have more talent. Both teams are in their first year under a new regime. Both teams play in a tough conference. With all things being equal, you'd probably think that the team with more "talent" would win more games. This will not be the case this year. The Browns will overachieve and the Jets won't win as many games as they should. And by "overachieving", I'm saying the Browns will win more games than last year (4). Probably about 6, which I believe will be more than the Jets will win this year.

OK but you didn't answer my question. What are you basing this on?

What makes you think the Jets will fall from nine wins to five or less?

What makes you think the Browns will overachieve?

Basing what on? My statement that the Jets would regret firing Mangini? Like I said, if the Jets don't win more than 9 games next year, it would be a step in the wrong direction. Most teams make a change to PROgress, not REgress.

Just a hunch. The thread title asks for our "Bold Predictions" after all. ;)

What makes you think the Browns will overachieve?

Better coaching.

Don't forget, the Jets were 4-12 two years ago, and improved to 9-7 with Brett Favre being dropped into the lineup. And that 9-7 record came with the 8-3 Jets losing four of their last five, with Mangini unable to do anything to stop the avalanche of losing. The lone victory of those last five games was an absolute gift from the Buffalo Bills.

As thrilled as Cleveland fans are to get Mangini, Jet fans are twice as thrilled that he's gone. ;)

The Jets will be breaking in a rookie QB this year, so it's not as simple as saying they should improve on 9-7 because they have a new coach. If Mangini had been breaking in a rookie QB last year they would also have been far from 9-7. Mangini was 4-12 when he didn't have a hall of fame QB two years ago.
