Blue Bloods

I like this show and I can't quite put my finger on why! The plots are inane. The acting is only this side of the community theater. The characters are two dimensional, and even the twists to the character traits are cliché. So why do I like this show so much? It must be a classic case of the sum being a whole lot more than the sum of its parts. Last night's episode was, when broken down to its elements, idiotic and tired. I was waiting for Jessica Fletcher to come out of the kitchen during the opening scene. You know in these series where an "old friend" shows up in the opening scene that character is either going to be dead in the second scene or the bad guy in some way.

The formula for this series is pretty simple. 1) Introduce some sort of ethical dilemma. 2) Wrestle with ethics and approach it from several directions. 3)Make ethical choice 4) Discussion where usually several sides are discussed.

Last night's show was corny as hell, but I loved it. The final scene (discussion) was what, I think, made the episode for me. I won't discuss details as to not spoil the episode for those who haven't seen it yet.

Last night's episode was one of my favorite of the series so far. And I still don't know why!

It doesn't hurt to be a Tom Selleck fan either.
I'm not, and I still like it. :)
Though I do like most of the rest of the cast.
Maybe BECAUSE it's so straightforward?
.
Edit: with Person of Interest, or a number of other shows, you actually have to pay attention to follow the story.

That´s one of the things I like about Blue Bloods, even if I miss an episode or two, I can understand the next one, ok I just had to watch that "Lilith" episode to understand what she was doing here.
When I tried to watch Person of Interest recently (I don´t usually watch it) I was lost without hope, trying to understand what was going on.

P.S.
And I don´t mind watching Bridget Moynahan even if it´s just her smashing her food at the dinner table. ;)

Was a very good episode, in several ways.
.
(Hardly a spoiler: )
On another note, Nicky is choosing a college, and wanting one far away.
Is she not going to be part of the cast next year?
