Is there a way to remove channels from the guide listing and search functions?

Of the hundreds of channels, I only watch a handful,
and would like to eliminate both the channels I don't recieve,
and the ones I dont' watch, to make scrolling fasters.

Before I upgraded to the HD service from TW,
I had Tivo for SD service, and they had a simple menu option
to exclude unwanted channels.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

i have time warner hd dvr also, and i cant find no way, to block the unwanted channels from the guide, would be nice if they would add this.

No way for the guide that I have found. However, I have put a parental block on all the channels we never watch. This at least is faster when you surf the channels, I must have 75 or so blocked that way. The parent block also lets me block channels I really don't want in my home -- Fox News, all the religious channels and all the shopping channels for example.

We used to have a service called Starsight which was an early on screen guide. It went OB when the cable systems started their own. It had the feature that your could rearrange the channels to meet your needs and that is the way they would appear on the "surf". For example we had all the sports channels together and all the news channels together one after another. It also let you totally delete channels you did not want to see, they just disappeared -- didn't even show in the guide let alone on the screen. Ah progress!!!!!!!!

their isnt a way to do it with the guide as far as I know, however you can add all those channels to your "favorites" then just go through them each manually

I am thinking that we might see this feature with navaigator software, time warner is getting ready to roll it out this year, and they are doing so they can add all of the features they want.

As stated above you can block the channel from viewing, but not remove it from the guide. You can create a favorites list and just use that for viewing choices

My favorites list changes all the time. This afternoon I was watching, golf and basketball so those became my favorites list. Those channels will change the next time I watch TV. I am gong to watch a hockey game on NHL Centre Ice tonight and will probably put the hockey game in favorites along with the Oscars.

The Oscars is a national channel-that should be there anyway-ABC NBC what ever those idiots are on. The Hockey game that you watch is probably on a channel that you will watch again in the future so that also is a channel that will not change. What the replys are is that you create a favorites list and then use that and not the PG

branchbouncer, I don't think you understand how this user is using the Favorites list. I actually used it the same way. If you just set up the favorites to list the channels you are watching at a given time then you can flip through just the channels you want to watch with the push of a button. I found this useful in the fall with college football games being on all sorts of different channels spread across the guide. Sure, if you're watching two programs the Last button would work fine, but if you're watching 5 games it is easier to use the favorites button.

The suggestion of using favorites doesn't really solve the problem, so the answer still is, no there isn't a way to limit the channels that display in the guide at this time. Hopefully they will change this function, but personally I see it as advertising and doubt it will ever change.

Yes, I've done that same thing that I don't want in my home -- CNN, MSNBC.

Favorites on TW's boxes only works when you use the Channel Up or Channel Down button, as I recall. What people want is a Favorites GUIDE. I have not read anything about this feature being added to their new Navigator software.

My feeling is TW wants you to see ALL of the channels they have available to entice you. For example, a movie is on HBO that you'd like to see but don't have HBO. They'd love for you to call and upgrade.

So there is no way to keep my son from reading titles on the user guide like Nude Girls in Heat, Butt Bunnies, Bangin' Black 2, Double Penetration, etc?

If you have a Scientific Atlanta SA8000 or SA8300 (SD or HD) box, you can block titles. Hit the "Settings" button on your remote, then "A", and scroll through and you'll find the option.
