Bill just went up $21, looking for best options

Apparently my two year price lock deal just expired and my $121 bill just went up to $151.

It appears I had the Top 250 package at 69.99, and it's now $87.99, I had a $5 autopay discount that no longer exists, had a $2 discount on locals ($10, now $12) and had a $5 DVR Hopper discount that's gone. (I also have two 4K Joeys, no difference there, and I'm still on a 6 month $5 HBO deal.)

Just wondering if anyone has any success negotiating better deals with Dish CSRs or if that's a waste of time? The only other option would be drop down a level of programming (but there's always that ONE or TWO channels in the package we hate to give up.)

Contact Dish thru Facebook chat. I went that route over trying to negotiate with some overseas customer service rep. At least I know Dish DIRT 'as their called' are based in Colorado. They did right by me and got $15 off monthly after signing a new 2 year deal.

I'll try that. Online chat just said, sorry, nothing we can do. Even though (truthfully) we are weighing all of our options including changing providers. We probably won't because I've had DTV and the Genie, and much prefer Dish and the Hopper, but we do need to think about the options.

I have frequently found the retention CSRS more willing and able to understand and deal, both on price and special circumstances. For example RV installation which was and may still be not allowed. After speaking to several dealers and several CSRS and several retention CSRS, I found the one that could make it happen.
Same with monthly fee adjustments. Persistence pays off.

Aren't you locked into a contract for another year after your discount is up?
No. Many years ago DISH (and others) had promos mainly for new customers with discounts the first year and much reduced or none for the second year but no more. None of current customer deals have a year with no discounts.

Call them and threaten to cancel, if they won’t budge then set a cancellation date for a week in advance. Say that’s the day Directv is coming out.

Wait a few days and wait for the desperate phone call from then trying to save you.
If you are going to play that game, it might be better to wait until after you actually close the account. When I temporarily closed one of my accounts, Dish offered me $15 off per month on an account with Welcome Pack. (Welcome Pack was only $19.99 per month at the time.) When I had closed the account, I had intended to leave it closed, but Dish made me an offer I couldn't refuse. (Dish has gotten a lot stricter against giving discounts on Welcome Pack since then, and it probably helped that I had been with Dish for almost 16 years at the time, and that I had another Dish account that was still open.)

That’s why you put a pending disconnect date in.

Unless you can go without Tv for a few days, your way works much better.

What dish used to do was put people on the welcome pack instead of allowing them to cancel.

For some people paying $20 per month to ride out the contract was better than paying $20 for every month remaining.

In my opinion, anytime you are looking to lower your bill, I think it is always best to speak with the loyalty/retention department for the best deals. They just have the most resources to work with you and if your call ends up saving you good money, it will be worth the call!
What is a reliable way to get connected with a retension specialist? Lately when I call I’ve had a hard time getting to a person who speaks good English and I’m a 20 year customer. My discount will also be ending in a month or so so I’m very interested in this topic too.
 
We have moved from Directv (after 15 years) to Dish, back to Directv to get Sunday Ticket for free for a couple of years, and then two years ago back to Dish because of the great price and price lock for two years. But we don't want to move every two years. I've never threatened to move providers unless I was willing to actually do it; I'd prefer not to right now because the Hopper 3 system is so much better than the Genie system (in my experience) and DishAnywhere is SO much better than the DTV alternative. At the same time, it's just TV and both providers let us watch the shows we want to watch.
 
The way satellite and cable TV are bleeding out customers, I’m surprised they don’t bend over to try and keep their current customers by offering better deals.
They are essentially offsetting the loss of subs by simply raising the price for existing subs. It's a bad business practice, as even though they remain in the black financially, they are in the red with retention. As more subs go, the price continues to increase. Eventually, they will be left with a big supply and little demand, which will cause their revenue to plumit and send them out of buisness. It's better to lose some money and increase the demand. Costs will be offset and they will have greater longevity.

I simply explained that I can't justify the cost in my current circumstances.
I don't want to leave Dish but I really need to minimize the cost without losing the bulk of the programs I watch.
Than we haggle over price for a bit and come to an agreement.
