I remember trying to find a spot for my initial Dish install. Back then it was all do-it-yourself installations. Anyways.... I needed like... elevation 33 degrees or so... can't remember exactly. It was a long time ago. And I didn't HAVE an inclinometer. I had a compass and a drafting triangle. The bathroom window was right below where I THOUGHT I wanted to put the dish after hunting around with my compass. I have tall trees as well... like... about 60 feet or higher. So I taped a piece of string to the bathroom window and using the compass, found a spot on the opposite wall to tape the OTHER end of the string so that it was oriented on the azimuth. Now I took the drafting triangle and placed the shortest edge against the window with the bottom at the string. Now as long as I remained oriented to the string along the bottom edge of the triangle, I was looking up a 30 degree angle from there and saying to myself, "It'll be ABOVE where this points."
Not only did it clear the trees, but it shot through a "gap" between 2 trees.
Ahhhh.... the old days... hahahaha
