how about peeking at the basic phone. This for example

The BIC is about 60 cents a minute at current exchange rate.

The minimum iphone plan with 16gb phone allows 5000 weekend minutes per month plus 450 week minutes plus 2gb data for $60 a month. Phone would be $228 with the bumper amortized over 2 years. The cost per minute would be much much much less than this BIC phone. 5450 x 24 is the number of minutes per 2 year period or 130800 minutes
Cost is $228 + 24 times $60 or $1668. The cost of the iphone is about 1.28 cents a minute.

Not that is what you would use but it is what you pay per minute.
