Best way of upgrading?

I am about to pull the trigger and upgrade from my Dish 500 / 508 DVR to a HD set-up. I haven't been on a contract for over a year. Even when we upgraded to the 508 DVR (years ago), I didn't get an upgrade from Dish -- I went out and bought the 508 myself. So I have been a DISH customer since the summer of 1996 (damn that is 13 years!) and I have never received an upgrade from DISH.

What is the best way of getting an upgrade? Call Dish and threaten to cancel unless they give me a 722, new 1000.2 dish, waive the DVR fees for 6 months, ....

WHat should I expect to get? What is going too far?

Should I be going to a dealer or just thru customer service on the phone?

Your suggestions and advice is appreciated

They'll upgrade you for free including the dish you need and receiver with a 2 year commitment. Probably get HBO & Showtime free for 3 months and maybe $10 @ month off for a year. Call 'em.

I just upgraded to HD last week.

I called Tech Support and asked what I could do to replace two 311's.

They offered me free upgrade and free install on a 622.

I got a 722K with a new dish.

And yes, it was 24 more months, but like you, I've been with them over 10 years myself.

Just call and ask.

Just wanted to let folks know that I signed up for the upgrade last night and I think I got a pretty good deal.

They are upgrading me to a 722 DVR for free. They waived the DVR and Receiver Lease fees for the term of the contract (24 months) and are giving me a $15 per month credit for the first 12 months.

I also got HD Turbo Bronze with locals.

My monthly cost will only be $19.99 for the first 12 months and then will be $34.99 for the second 12 months.

Supposed to get the upgrade Saturday morning. :)
