Standard KU LNB's use an L.O. (local oscillator) of 10750

Universal use's two L.O.'s of 9750 and 10600.
You would send a 22kHz tone via your receiver to activate one or the other.
Universal is not really needed in NA. There are sometimes some Atlantic and Euro birds over to the east that use lower frequencies and would require a universal, just depends on how far you can see to the east.

I do have 2 old Invacom quad horns, one is used and one is still in the box.

These are very good LNBF's. A PLL LNBF can give a little better performance, but then again may not. You will probably get the maximum return for the effort in very precisely peaking your dish. Also check that your LNBF is not flexing the arm holding it moving it out of the precise spot for maximum signal. That LNBF is a heavy one. What dish is it mounted on? A long time ago I had posted the measurements for a few different winegard dishes. Others here may have similar drawings for other dishes.

I just got a Inverto Black Premium LNB
and it works better than any other LNB i have tryed.
2 to 3 db more than other LNBs, however if you were just starting out you would be better off buying a larger dish.
