Frankly, it surprises me that they "get away with it" every week. For that matter I'm surprised they "got away with it" back in the seventies. The intent is there, the meaning is obvious, they "get away with it" on a technicality. It's still a four letter word beginning with "F" and ending with "K", pronounced very similar to the real word, and has the exact same meanings and inflections.
Well, it initially struck me as odd at the beginning of the series, and in the original series in the 70's, it was rarely used, but in this version, the "kk" variation of the word has been used in every possible context as the real word, but the real word has never been used until tonight. A "technicality" is a bit of a stretch... I think they just got away with it.
I liked the flashbacks. Gave us some more depth and insight to the characters...who/why they are the way they are. What drives/motivates them. What touches them. The hanger-deck scene was huge (and I'm not talking just scale either). That scene is a gut-puncher. It hits hard and it just keeps on hitting. Watching Adama stop Cottlle is a huge moment. Watching the F5 go across, Caprica...and then Roslyn, and Kara helping her stand and they lock hands. This is real life, real people, real pain and commitment.
I don't know or really care what the blogosphere pees about. This was a terrific setup episode for the ending.
