I'm an new D* customer. I have basic installation scheduled for tomorrow for one DVR and one standard box. I am trying to find out what that will include. Will the installer put the dish on the house and run lines to the box where my cable enters the house and splice it in? Or, will he run all new higher quality cable to the two outlets?

When D* CSR told me that basic installation doesn't include "hiding wires", and that any "custom" work will have to be negotiated with the installer. I can't help but think that this translates into me getting hosed. I'm also worried that since my wife will be there during the install and not me, that she won't know what we do and don't need and may have "extras" pushed on her. I envision getting home from work tomorrow and having a coax hanging down the side of my house and coax laying on the floors along the walls inside the house.

Can anyone describe what exactly is included in basic installation?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob how many houses on this earth are exactly like yours? Each install is different. Basic installs do not include wall fishes, you get 1 exterior wall penetration per tuner.

Boba,
thanks for the info. both of the boxes will be on exterior walls. one of the two boxes will be on an exterior wall on the front of the house. will the cable be visible or under the siding?

Imagine taking the shortest and easiest path possible from the dish to the receivers. That's what a free basic install included. I know it's a tired and corny expression ... but you get what you pay for.

CablerMN,
Thanks for the info. That's kinda what I figured.

Let us know how it turned out, some installers do quality work. If your not happy with the install, don't be afraid to call someone.
