they are all basically the same- they are all VOIP. true, magicjack requires a pc to be on but then again its also super cheap at $20/yr

ooma is i think $200 or so (check on amazon) but i believe thats a one time fee, unless you pay for extra features but you dont need a pc. vonage you also dont need a pc but you have to pay a monthly fee. if i was going to buy any of the 3, i'd get ooma.

In most cases the installer losses his pay and materials if you cancel. If the installer does a good job and takes the time to make sure you know how to use it before he leaves, please think hard about canceling just because you mad at Dish or Direct or the boxes in your house (at least for the first year). Also yes the bluff does work sometimes.


I also would recommend on waiting on Scott's review. He's very honest about pointing out both the pros and cons.
 
The installer doesn't get paid for his time or materials if i cancel? Wow - that really sucks. And the guy who did the install for me did a pretty decent job. He even punched the cable through the wall in the bedroom rather then running cable all through the place.

Like i said - i'd just be bluffing. So far i like the service and the 722 - i'm just being greedy and hoping i can get a better one :) but i'm ok with the 722 if that's what i have to keep.
 
Good luck with bluffing. Right now people are being transferred to loyalty if they throw out the cancel bluff over paying $15 for a tech visit. DISH has finally realized they can't make money on "Free".

You are spot on that.

Also, if the installer works for an RSP he will most likely get paid reguardless.

And concerning the price of a 922. I cant remember the exact number that i was told this week, but i know its a heck of a lot more than 200 bucks. Ill try and get the number tomorrow and post it when i can.

A heck of a lot more than 200 to lease? I can't imagine it being more than 300 to lease. Especially with the limitations that have been put on the receiver lately.

I thought I read somewhere last year the price of the 922 would be approx $499. I
think you mis-interpreted what previous poster said. He never used the word lease.
 
I very well may have. And to buy I would expect the $500 price tag. I hope that it is around the $200 mark to lease, but who knows.
 
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but as of release we hear there will be no internet browser, no EHDD support (can be done by the other VIP receivers), no separate TV 2 output other than sling (can be done by the other VIP receivers), etc.
 
bummer - so if i got a 922 receiver, i'd likely have to get a 2nd box in order to have a 2nd tv hooked up to the service? external hd - since this one has a bigger internal drive for me that would be less of an issue.

Oh well - maybe it's good that it's less appealing - i'll be less tempted to spend the money to upgrade :)
 
I think Im just going to go ahead and buy a Slingbox Pro-HD and hook it up to my 722. I just dont see any advantage to the 922. As long as I keep adding hard drives, I really dont care what size the hard drive is in the box.

The Slingbox Pro-HD is only $229.99 at Amazon right now. I fully expect to pay $200 for the opportunity to lease the 922, plus the additional monthly fees. So, the Slingbox just makes more sense.

Give the feature set of the 922 at the moment, that is probably a wise choice. Although I am sure sometime in the future you will want a 922. :D
 
I finally gave up and bought a used PRO-HD Slingbox WITH the HD cable for $125 on ebay.

I wanna advise people about the HD content on the slingbox,, if you already dont know this, you need a 3MB or better UPLOAD speed to be able to get the best out of this.
Out in the boonies where I live, the max I can get is 3 MB DOWN and 768 up,,, so the pic quality is never as clear as it should be,

I think Im going to go the Slingbox Pro-HD route myself instead of jumping on a 922 right away. I looked on eBay the other day and saw nothing less than $220. Amazon is back up to $264.
