Just curious if its better to have audio come from an HDMI source rather than a optical source. I have an Onkyo 605 that supports HDMI for audio. Will I notice any difference in the audio quality.
With Directv - probably won't notice any difference. However - with a blu-ray source - it is night and day. You cannot push TrueHD Audio over optical - it doesn't have the bandwidth.
Oh I know with Blu Ray I currently am using HDMI for audio for my Blu Ray player and HD DVD player but since HD DVD is dead I was thinking of having the audio run from the HDMI with the D*. Might try it out see if the audio is clearer because I notice the audio clearer through the HDMI.
I run both my Blu Ray and DirecTV HR20 audio through my Yamaha using HDMI. Definitely hear the difference with the Blu Ray and can only say the audio off the HR20 is great but can't say it is better than when I ran optical to my old receiver.
