You would need to go from the optical digital out on the 522 to a digital input on the home theater/dvd, I believe. You don't have an optical digital input on your home theater/dvd?

yeah, it wouldnt matter if the receiver had an input or not. you have to get the signal FROM the receiver TO the home theater/dvd.
As far as a digital signal, if your home theater doesnt have an optical input, then yes, you are out of luck there.
Just use the RCA's. If I had to guess I'd say since its a home theater/dvd all-in-one type unit, I doubt you will be able to hear a real difference in sound quality anyway.

I have a home theater/dvd all in one system with surround sound hooked up from my 622 with a digital optical cable. While it seems it seldom has much 5.1 surround sound (no noticeable sound from the rear speakers usually) I know it can put out fantastic surround sound because I watch "Nothing but Trailers" mainly for that purpose. It also has pretty good surround sound at times on some of the Sirius music channels. I don't understand why there isn't more excellent surround sound on HD programs.

thank you all for your replys. as i said i could see no inputs on either device. i have looked into a converter, but with no inputs.........

Buy Individual Components

That's the problem with buying COMBO units, there is always something that doesn't work right.
I suggest buying an A/V receiver for a good surround system.
Move that dvd player to a second tv, or SELL it.
