Are You Eligible for DNS with D*?

It will also show your eligibility for HD DNS, which is different from the SD.

First-tier CSRs often do not understand the DNS technicalities. If you are eligible for HD DNS, call and ask for the "HD DNS Eligibility Department" and they will hook you up.

Assuming, of course, that you are a HD customer. :)

Its too bad the rules are what they are to get locals from a totally diffrent area...Call me a geek, but I think it would be cool to see news and other local shows from a diffrent area!!

Heres my results:

Network Affiliate Channel Status
ABC WHSV 3 Grade B (moderate signal)
CBS WUSA 18 Grade A (strong signal)
FOX WTTG 46 Grade A (strong signal)
NBC WVIR 28 Grade A (strong signal)
PBS Eligible

Digital (HD) Distant Network Service
Network Affiliate Status
ABC WHSV-DT Grade B (moderate signal)
CBS WUSA-DT Grade A (strong signal)
FOX WTTG-DT Grade A (strong signal)
NBC WVIR-DT Grade A (strong signal)

CBS and the Fox station towers are 108 miles from my house--this is one of the reasons I dumped D* after more than 8 years service. When we moved from NOVA we intended to keep D* but after 6 months of run around and being in the suspend mode,D* said that they (I) could not get the waivers so I canceled. For the hell of it wrote the stations and got the waivers,oh well D* guess you don't need my 1500.00 a years

I told you in the other thread that fi you KEPT you D* the KA spot beam reaches you. I did KA install in Quicksburg and they receive D.C. locals.

Checked D* for sd and HD DNS. I'm 56 miles from the Madison WI towers. NO DNS SD or HD because they are available via D*. Don't really need them as I get 100% OTA HD signals and get SD either from D* or OTA.

Grydlok--have no intrest in D* and thier couple of HD channels--Adelphia provides plenty of HD,at least enough to keep everyone here content. D* was unable to get the waivers but I wrote in and Fox and CBS granted them I don't think D* ever even tried. Not missing anything with D*

Was just responding to dfergie's question

The OTA would be better than anything D* could re-transmit to you plus they are free

But once again, there are mistakes about the law...

Two things you absolutely missed:

1) WTTG and WUSA are not 108 miles from your house. There are translators in Harrisonburg, a mere 15 miles away.
2) Waivers must be requested by your provider, not you.

Yes, if your HD locals become available on satellite, then you lose the distant HD feeds when they become available. This is what compounds the issue about distants: when analog locals go away, so to analog distants, leaving only the distant digital provisions of the SHVERA.

So, this means every time a new market is added, there will be many people that lose their distants.

And Dish Network no longer has the right to do digital distants. The only way people will be able to see network HD on Dish Network is if they uplink all the markets.

I can't compare D* HD locals to my OTA HD locals because I haven't upgraded to the MPEG 4 receiver and AT9 dish yet. But my OTA HD locals look great. I find that all the HD I do get from D* looks great on my Sony and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do after the 2 new birds go up.:)

You can request the waiver,I have it here telling me to forward it to D* don't want to mention her name but she is the "Executive Assistant" at WUSA

The HD from D* is good, but living in an area that doesn't have massive amounts of people on the cable nodes gives me a much better picture:

Yes, Adelphia HD PQ beats D* by a mile and even the SD PQ is better. I would drop D* immediately and expand my Adelphia Internet to include TV, except for the NFL, Not having ST but with a big help from D* DNS, I can see a total of 8 games today with 6 in HD.

Have you watched channel 9 (WUSA)news,my Adelphia feed seems much better than D*

Yes, I have and agree Adelphia Cable WUSA HD is equal to OTA. 9.1 local news is my favorite because of HD. Those newscasts have unbelievable HD PQ! Can't imagine how good it would be if they didn't multicast!

The Ravens look awesome or perhaps the Steelers are just plain sub-par!

The translators are on Massanutten mtn,I see them from my front deck(I live in Massanutten) and they are analog signals.I don't give a hoot if someone brings me an analog(see said hoot not some nasty swear word, working on it) signal to my driveway,I only watch HD,and that is what I am interested in getting

this is a long story, He requested Waivers for the station not in his market, got upset when D was like you don't live in those DMA's. He spent forever and a day attempting to make an Antenna structure to pick up D.C. and Richmond locals in hi-def. It's really quite amusing.

If they aren't in my market then why does D* say these are the channels I am to receive that are in my market

The four networks you've listed as in your market are in your market. The question is why you'd send waiver requests to DC, as all four networks that are on your list are in Harrisonburg.

The problem is that the qualfications for "digital distants" are the exact same as "analog distants". Pay attention to that last sentence, because it will be mentioned again.

If you can receive the analog versions of the networks, you cannot receive the analog nor digital distants.

Until the FCC is able to implement the coverage maps for the digital stations, the qualfication procedure for digital distants is exactly the qualification procedure for analog distants.

Oh well I don't miss D*, Adelphia(Comcast)provides 18 HD channels(with local HD)thats enough for me,we won't have much time as soon,as sking starts soon, the youngest kids will want to be on the MTN most of the time

If D* only offers your analog locals and you qualify as no OTA, you will get HD DNS.

The website showed me as qualified and I called D* and got them.
