I read on one thread, pretty sure the guy was joke, but, he mentioned that the locals from 105 and 121 were going to be put on 129....Is this true?

How about the internationals??? Will alll the international channels be on 129??
If they are palnnig on doing this, will they be in MPEG4 to save on bandwidth?

Thanks.

Locals are NOT moving to 129. 129 is the orbital slot designated for new HD locals and National HD channels. The only reason for the 129 orbital slot is if you need the HD channels and have a Dish MPEG4 receiver.

Be aware that some subscribers in the Eastern US can NOT see the 129 satellite namely Southern Central and Souther Florida as well as the Northeast US from New York on east. Every National HD channel is mirrored on 61.5 for this very reason.

The new Echostar X satellite (110 newest satellite) that just launched will allow Dish to off load most of the locals that are now on national transponders to free up more National bandwidth. With that said Echostar X will not be moved to 110 and be in service for about 90-120 days.

they will be getting rid of 105 since it is leased...Dish owns their satellite at 121

as John noted, the locals on 105 will move to 110 but some have moved to 129 (Like Richmond, VA)

Why don't they design an LNBF assembly to replace the existing one on the 121 superdish to allow it to get 110,119,121, and 129? You know this is possilble since people here have demonstrated it just by taping a single DishPro lnbf to the end of 121 Superdish? This would the ultimate Dish solution(DISH1500!)

Well I would not count out 105 too soon... Dish started a 10 year lease on it in 2004, they have a ways to go with it. Perhaps they will use it for backhauls, or maybe LIL HD for small markets. Dish is leasing AMC-15 and AMC-16, of course I have yet to see them do stuff with AMC-16 at all.

the sig off 105 or 121 would not really work for HD because its a C Band type sat and not DBS

Huh? Scratching my head on this one...... I wasn't aware that CBand couldn't do HD. I also wasn't aware that they changed C Band to the 11.7ghz band. A lot changes during the day while I'm at work! WOW!

I'm in Richmond, VA with a Super Dish. Do I have to get another dish now? Currently i'm lookin at 119,110 and 105.

you can get a dish 1000 but you dont need it right now becasue the superdish still works

And Dish will have to replace it for free when it comes to that time right?

if they do away with the dish then yes but more then likly they will be on the 2nd 110 dish echostar 10 so the superdish will still pick them up from 110 there will just be nothing from 105

the 105 and 121 are former c band sat thats why you have to have a fss lnbf, and thats a lof of the reason the sig is not as high.

So AMC 15 used to be a CBand satellite? I must have missed that Space Shuttle mission where they converted it to a Ku/Ka satelllite.

Can I get some of what you are smoking? ;)

Do a little research.....google is your friend.

But if they have already went to a Dish1000 market (129) then they would have to swap everyone out that currently has a SuperDish to a Dish1000. They would have an additional cost on top of the SuperDish for having those customers.

If they were going to do locals on 105 still then it would not make sense to take a lot of people that they have already invested a lot more money in ($200+ extra) then even more money with some of them to swap them to a Dish1000 just to spend a lot more extra to go through it all again for some other markets. They would have to be pretty small markets for it to be worth while. Maybe they plan on doing this for the really small markets to keep the cost at a minimum. What Dish has to think about is if it is really worth doing it for those small markets. HD would take up a lot of space at 105.

Another thing is that everyone will not be able to get HD off of 129 because they cannot pickup a signal. I know that 129 is a bit tougher to tune in where there are lots of trees and hills compared to 110 and 119 as it points even lower. maybe they will keep some local markets at 105 as well for those that have a hard time receiving a signal at 129. I doubt they will do this though.

At the current HD LIL bandwidth rates Dish is using on 61.5 and 129, 105 would let them serve about 32 markets with HD LIL. 121 would be minus the bandwidth of the internationals. Since they will probably move all the standard definition LIL off of 105 and 121 to E10 at 110, they could move the HD LIL for small markets to the superdish and the current superdish customers would not even notice since they get 110 on SD anyways.

The whole HD LIL is a new item for Dish (and DIRECTV). I am sure Dish wants to have options ready if it turns out it is a hot seller in a year or 2 and 50 smaller markets on SD could be worth it to Dish (they would probably also make SD 4 satellites to pick up 129).

My prediction is that they will empty out the superdishes and wing locals to 110 on E10. Then they will use up the rest of the spot capacity of E10 to serve the top 50 markets or so with HD LIL. They will have 61.5 (spot), 85, 105, 121, and 148 in reserve to add more HD LIL if demand is there. Not to mention the 3 Ku-Aux slots they have reserved without satellites, the contracted satellite from ses-americom that they have placed a downpayment, and Ka slots they have.

Dish now appears to have more capacity than they can use. It will be interesting to see what they do with it all.

I agree with your prediction's 100%. In addition I would not be surprised to see the 129 SD locals and possibly some of the 129 HD locals moved to E10 too if their is still room after they do your predictions. In other words, I suspect that in those 105 and 121 SuperDish markets were they are currently simulcasting some locals on both 129 and 105 or 121 and those markets who have minor locals simulcast on the wings as well as on 129, these locals will be consolidated to E10 on 110, once again if their is still room. I think 129 is only a temporary spot for some of the locals their now. It is easier to upgrade some customers to a Dish1000 now and then fall back to a Dish500 when new customers are added in the future if a 1000 is no longer needed.
