Are there any free ITC channels on Directv?

I have a Directv system that my neighbor gave me (still in the box, about 4 years old) and was wondering if I can get C-Span, PBS etc for free or if I have to subscribe?

You have to sub. Their own, in-house previews are the only video in the clear. The receiver's access card must be activated for anything to come in.
