Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

Maybe it is just me, but the browser on iOS5 feels like it is ten times faster, amazingly smooth for "beta" software.

I'm also surprised by how solid iOS 5 seems to be. It doesn't feel like a beta product at all. It also seem like they've been able to improve battery life with this release.

I noticed the battery life thing almost immediately. Usually when I am at full charge, the first 5 percent drop is almost instantaneous, whereas it sat at 100% for a good ten or fifteen minutes. It seems to be extremely solid, and as you say, it does not feel at all like beta software.

That said, I have a few apps that are bucking it. The Weather Channel's App seems not to like it, and crashes; and twice the NYTimes app has crashed, when loading up an "ad" page. But each time when I reclick the app it immediately goes to where it is supposed to be. Safari has been amazingly zippy, and so much more user friendly.

I tried to setup cloud backup, but its apparently not ready yet. Nor is the architecture in place to "add storage."

Could it be because it is Beta and does not including many of the other features that slow it down?

This is not a mostly incomplete OS; to the contrary it seems like the real deal. I think they have optimized the OS for the better. Kind of cool, as I just upgraded my phone to Gingerbread, and it too has enjoyed both performance increases and increased battery life. Good to know its possible to come out with a new OS and make things better. Hoping for more of the same from OSX Lion next month. :)

Just checking in... Been very busy on a big video project lately. 3D shooting for a week and now editing it all to 3D Blu-Rays so I haven't had much time to follow the latest iOS5. I see Rocky is holding down the fort er... thread. Who's a thunk it a year ago? Glad you're having fun with it, Mike. I should catch up on what's going on but the 3D video stuff has priority right now.

Yeah, who would of thunk it? :D Not me. But apparently, according to one satguy in the Honeycomb thread, I have become an Apple "fanboi." LOL.

In many ways the changes to iOS 5 are kind of minor; tweaks and updates to services; some apps over-hauled; but on the surface, iOS5 looks identical to iOS 4.3, except for the welcomed addition of notifications. On a daily basis, I suspect the re-do of Safari is the single most welcomed change. A very impressive browser. We can't really test out the iCloud stuff yet, since most of it isn't really there yet. And even though iCloud supports iWork apps, those apps have not been upgraded to support it yet. I'm sure it will just be a matter of time though.

One of the things I've noticed since I switched to Apple is that each OS upgrade seems to make thing quicker, so I think that Lion will be faster than Snow Leopard. I'm glad to see the iOS 5 beta seems quicker than the current.

I want a way to select all emails.

I hope email app in iOS5 is much better.

I think the changes have more to do with formatting of emails; the app itself seems the same to me, but I have not gone into it in great depth. I am looking forward to the iOS-like intergration of multiple accounts into the OSX mail app. What I love about the iPad mail app is that all my accounts are integrated and I can easily clean them out with the Edit button.

I just watched the press comference last night. Everything looks really cool and can't wait it all to come out. One thing I'm wondering is can you prevent the cloud from sending some info to certain devices? I have some music on my devices with some not so nice lyrics that I really don't want sent to my 8 year old daughters Ipod Touch. Anyone know about this?

That is a great question. There are things on my iPad that I don't want on my iPhone (and vise versa). Hopefully there is a way to manage what goes where.

I believe the answer is yes, but since the cloud isn't really functional yet, its hard to test. I am pretty sure you can specify stuff.

Screaming brand new capacitor.
