Finally, a camera with 10" viewfinder. Just to make sure I hold it right...:)

Diogen.

ROTFL!! :p

Yeah, the camera is kind of silly, and it is not particularly easy to use (plus, its got a crappy resolution!). The camera on the Tab is a bit easier to use (since its a much smaller form-factor), but even still, the rear camera is just not particularly important.

That's pretty much what Steve Jobs said when some people started complaining about the original iPad not having front and rear facing cameras. Using a tablet as a camera is a good way to get people laughing at you.

I saw a tourist on the strip in Vegas using his ipad2 as a video camcorder and yes, everyone was staring and laughing at him. I'm going the other way. I want a pocket ink pen that doubles as an HDTV camcorder. I already have one now that shoots in 640x480 SD to a 4Gb Micro sd card.

Walking down the strip with your iPad screams rob me!!!

I always pegged you for Maxwell Smart. :D

Some questions about the iPad 2

Wow.. never thought I'd be in this thread..

As some of you know, I recently got myself a Xoom tablet and while it has sold me on the concept of tablet computing, the Xoom itself and Honeycomb 3.0 haven't sold me that IT is the right kind of tablet. Early on I said that I would refuse the iPad line, but given how buggy 3.0 still is, and considering that the new tablets coming down the pipe aren't exactly awe inspiring, I've decided that keeping my mind closed to 1 OS may not be the wisest decision.

Before I jump into the ever popular iPad 2 pool I have a few questions. Let me start off by saying that I fully intend on jailbreaking my iPad ASAP (and yes, they just announced today that it has been done on the iPad 2) so please consider that when answering my concerns.

1. How is the camera? I actually like using my Xoom to film video and take pictures because I like the larger viewing area and find that it is more stable than using my phone. Still, this isn't exactly a dealbreaker so I can live without it if necessary.

2. Is web browsing really hampered by no Flash? One of the things I really like about the Xoom is that it can open up basically ANY site on the web that I would ever want to visit. I mainly visit pages like Facebook, Escapist, Youtube, and other sites like it. Still, I do like that I can go to a random news site with their own video clip or an embedded Youtube clip and be able to watch it right there. What is this like on the iPad?

3. How does the Netflix app work? I like using my Xoom to watch videos at the gym and like the idea of being able to watch Netflix from anywhere, and also like that I don't have to just "hope" that Netflix will release their app for a particular Android device that may or may not have some chip in it.

4. Is it possible to get an app (Jailbroken or otherwise) that can play XviD video files?

5. Speaking of jailbreaking, does doing so help relieve some of the control complaints that people have about the device? For example, do the customization options open up greatly?

That's all I can think of for now. TIA.

Netflix app works great and its good the camera isn't a deal breaker because it might be the worst camera I've ever used on a mobile device.

Can't really comment on the rest.

Is the camera different than on the iPhone 4? I have the iPad 1 so don't have the camera, but I don't mind the one on the IP4 at all. Is it as good as a stand alone digital camera? No. But it isn't bad at all.

Pic from my ipad 2.

Don't be fooled by smaller sizes, look at the full size image - http://www.satelliteguys.us/attachment.php?attachmentid=64655&d=1304374690

I was surprised there was no zooming or anything either, it's just click and done. Why there isn't an iphone4 quality camera in there I have no idea, other than to make the ipad 3 that much better.

Yeah, horrible resolution. No flash does not help. Lame.

Well, I guess I am going to enter the world of tablet computing as well.
I had been considering it for some time, and have been trying to decide which direction that I wanted to go in.
While I have no particular loyalty to any brand or OS, I was admittedly leaning towards an android based tablet.
Well, after reading reviews from people that have both, I decided that if I could find a decent deal on a first generation Ipad (i figured it would get me a lower price, and for what I would personally use it for, the added features on the Ipad 2 would be of little value) that I would get one.

Last night on ebay, I did just that. The buyer stated that it was a little over two months old and had been in a case with a screen protector since they got it.
So most likely by this weekend at the latest, I will be the newest member of the Satguys Ipad Club.

I went to Best Buy last night to look at the iPad 2 and the Acer tablet, as well as ask about the Transformer. Of course they had no idea when they'd get more of the iPad 2 or any of the Transformer, and I found the Acer tablet to be rather unappealing (or at least not good enough to justify switching from the Xoom.)

I have to say I was 1 step away from ordering an iPad 2 last night. I had filled out everything and was about to put in my credit card information at the Apple Store, until I went to get verification on the idea that the device HAD actually been jailbroken. Sadly I found out that it had not and as a result I backed out in the end.

I do dislike that Tablets haven't really evolved enough (not surprising since they're less than 2 years old) to where there is a real hands down winner in my eyes. To me it comes down to "Which features can you live without?" With the iPad 2 (I don't want the original iPad, sorry) I really like how light it is and how vibrant the screen is along with the massive app store and the fact that about 95% of all tablet apps come out on that well before Android tablet versions. However, I am NOT a fan of the lack of Adobe Flash and the stringent controls Apple implements on the device, along with the fact that Android has more free, ad-supported apps than iOS does. With Honeycomb tablets I like the customizations and greater browsing capabilities, but I do NOT like how buggy the OS is, along with the inconsistencies in compatibility amongst the various tablets (which sadly is rather inherent with Android) and the general lack of true tablet apps.

The Apple store at Westfarms has them in stock, I purchased 3 of them in the last week for my bosses at work.

The only thing I want to jailbreak mine for is so that I can output everything to my tv. Currently only certain apps output to the tv which sucks. :)

Yeah the Best Buy guy said that Apple Stores had them in but that you had to wait on line for like 4 hours (which I doubted was true. Even Stop & Shop isn't like that on Thanksgiving Eve.) My main thing about the Jailbreaking is that if I am going to delve into the iPad world, I need to emulate my exact behavior with it. I don't want to go and try out the iPad 2 and turn it down only to find out later that had I just done a jailbreak and installed this app or done that that I wouldn't have that particular problem.

Each one I purchased I was I. And out of the store in less then 10 minutes. There are no lines at the apple store.

Can anyone speak to the other things I mentioned, such as browsing the web without flash, jailbreak vs no jailbreak, and the safari browser in general?

Screaming brand new capacitor.
