Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is beta software for developers. If you have a Mac you can get enough of the developer stuff to enable them for about $5.00 but you can't enable them from a PC. See How To Enable Multitasking Gestures In The iPad 2 for more information.

Cool. Thank you. I had heard about the developer mode, but was not sure how it worked. Are there other benefits of switching to developer mode? Well, I guess I could google that.

I tried Friendly, and like it, but it seems to be a bit erratic, and occasionally crashes. Good to know things crash in apple land too. But unlike Android, which says "Force close" Apple just goes back to the home screen, and does not explain a thing!

So, mostly I am using SkyFire for it. Works fine. Been installing apps like mad, playing a bit. Bought Documents to Go Premium so I could edit files directly to and from my Dropbox.com folders, providing full access to my files.

Ok, I remember Frank having this problem, but I am finding that my wifi connection randomly shuts off, even when the settings say it is still there. Thoughts? It is really irritating. I have a Belkin wireless-n router. Never have problems with pc or GTab.

That is classic case of too many apps open from what I've experienced. Some apps use more memory too. Like my 3D human Heart app. I can only run that if there are less than 4 others running in the background. As soon as I get the symptom you describbed, I double tap the button and close a few background operations and begin again without the crash. FWIW- I can crash my PC doing the same thing, Opening too many programs for the ram I have installed. No warning there either. Haven't run into the problem with my Thunderbolt yet. I think they must auto close the apps with the oldest access. Seems that way.


I used to have trouble with wifi losing connection with my older Linksys router. I switched to the Netgear and that problem went away. Now I have the Netgear issue of needing to reboot the router once a week or it quits assigning IP addresses.

Yeah I have learned to kill apps pretty regularly, unlike Android where I know how memory I have, it's always a magical mystery.

Do not use the routers internal update check option as it will be useless. The following is a link for my Belkin N+. F5D8235-4V2000 Download whatever version for yours (V1xxx,2 or 3) to your desktop. Then go into your routers settings and update the firmware.

Rocky let me know if that fixes the lost connection issue. It seems to be a problem specific to the Pad as every other wireless device I have worked fine and was stable using the Belkin. Before I updated the firmware on the router I tried different settings on the Pad to include changing security settings and even changing the routers name and ssid. That was a pain in the backside because I had to change the settings on all my other wireless devices. I would think it was fixed only to disappoint me later on with a lost connection. It seemed as though the Pad would forget how to connect to the router, but when checking under settings on the Pad it would show that it was connected. As I mentioned before, on the settings page of the router there is an option to check for firmware updates but it will indicate it is up to date no matter what version is running, outdated or not. Only after going to the Belkin site did I find the update. My Belkin router and Pad play nice together now. I hope this works for you. Good luck!

I did find an update on the website, from 2.0.7 to 2.0.9 and applied it, but won't know for awhile if it fixed the problem, as it is truly intermittent. Also been trying to beat the problem of the microwave killing the wireless (for everything), and so far my tests have failed. Tried fixed channels, tried going to 20MHz instead of 20/50, next I need to consider N-only rather than N and G, but leery of that. BUT that is not an ipad issue, just a general wifi one I have.

Looks like mine. Haven't been on the iPad long enough tonight to se if the firmware worked.

Spent a bunch of time fighting the iTunes sync. It was taking forever to backup, so I switched to my laptop, and then had to figure out how to transfer my apps to it, and then I was able to sync easily.

Also downloaded flipboard. It is excellent. A very cool app. Nothing like it on android. It is really innovative.

I think the Belkin firmware update solved the problem. Connection has worked nonstop for two hours. Hope I don't jinx it.

I have my fingers crossed for you. I don't think there is a lot of people around here that use the Belkin router that we use. Biggest issue I have with it is getting it configured properly. The default settings from the factory stink in my opinion, but once properly configured and updated I believe it to be a good solid router.

I should create a poll for this, but I am curious, of ipad owners, how many of you are using invisible shields/screen protectors, vs. using your ipad "naked"

I picked up an invisible shield, but have not installed it yet. While I hate how grimy the screen gets from finger prints, so far I really like using it without the plastic on it. Unlike other devices, it seems pretty scratch resistant. So do you use protection or take your chances?

I use a screen protector just to cut down on the finger prints that are left from use.

I used a screen protector for about a month. Finally got sick of how it made swipe controls more difficult (more friction for some reason) and got rid of it. Nearly eight months later, my screen looks good as new. I do use a case that keeps the front covered when not in use.

Never used a protector. Screen wipes clean easily and have 0 scratches.

Take it back, take it back. Take it back before you open the package and get your money back. If the iPad2 has a glass screen which I think it does, take it back. THe invisible shield isn't junk, and I can get it on without bubbles, I have one on the Tab, and it was easy to install (the reality is the Zagg products are VERY good), but I am just torn about whether I want it or not. Still holding out for the time being.

But given the comments, I am leaning towards going commando for a bit. BUT it does definitely get lots of finger prints.

I understand you want to protect it and keep it new looking, so do what you want, but unless you have small kids or live at the beach (sand) why bother? Mine still looks like it did when I first got it back in December. Just my.02
