Most of the time you really don't know if you get a refurb or not unless you look into the situation ... the tech is not gonna come out and say you get a new or you get a refurb.
Fwiw, I think they have a refurb sticker on the bottom ...

nailed it!fyi, there's no way they can guarantee you'll get a new receiver when ordering over the phone. all replacements that are sent out (and most drop shipped upgrades) are refurbished, notated or not.
