I have found this in a thrift store: Sat Sound 8900 IR (Rev A)

It looks to be equivalent to ADTH 8900IR. Of course there's nothing on ADTH website about it.

All I have found so far is it is (or was at one time) used by Bob Jones University and Filipino channel for their Irdeto-encrypted stuff.

Anybody know if this can be used for normal FTA? Does it support a motor?

The receiver is less than ten bucks but I would need to find a compatible remote as it's not included.

Well thanks for checking anyway. I guess I'll leave it at the thrift store.

I have a sneaking suspicion it would have bad firmware on it anyway. Next to it on the shelf was an E* 2700 with the R00 sticker missing from the backside. I'm guessing they were both used for the same illegal purpose and junked after being ECM'ed.

Used to have couple of them. If my memory serves me well, they were made by Samsung.
Correct name is actually Sat N Sound. Very old model, does not support 1.2
My suggestion is forget it, the tuner is really dump...
Good luck

I actually have a similar model (the ADTH 8600IR version) and was hoping to bring it back into use as a FTA receiver. We used to have it for my wife's Filipino Channel service, but they went to DirecTV and so did we, but we left the dish in place. It's like stereo, we have dishes on both sides of the house. I was planning to put it back in service and point the dish at some other source, since the satellite it's aimed at currently no longer gets the Filipino programing and just gets a couple Iranian and some weird Chinese stations (one of which just has a monk talking to the camera alllll daaay looong).

Are you saying this receiver won't work out well for this purpose? I thought it would be a good way to test the waters, seeing as I've already paid for the equipment...
