The second one is a problem you created for yourself. Thats not a DISH issue.
Ota is very important in my area on the coast.
First reason:As I've said before I went through a hurricane that was very unexpected. Over night it built up and when I woke up at 2:30 in the morning and the storm was raging, the only thing that was working on my receiver was the ota tuner. I was able to find out what was happening , where the hurricane was( right on top of my town), and find out when it was leaving.
Second reason: Also as a "mover", it is necessary to be able to watch local news .
The third reason I like watching ota, sub channels that DISH doesn't carry. In my area no CW and No Metv. Both are on subchannels of my local ota channels.
IF DISH truly wants to make the hopper the future and the best dvr receiver in the industry, it makes no sense to cut out features you already have on older Vip receivers, even if their data shows very few people use it. I NEVER use the DISH home page, I don't use the sports channels either ,but they are still there. Because some people use them . I hope that DISH will let us use a dual tuner ota tuner so we can make the most of the hopper , or it will be Vip for me all the way.
We're not talking about car leases though. We're talking about pay-tv service. Dish competes with cabelcos that have no upfront costs for equipment that they supply. Cabelcos even offer reduced rate cable cards to use with your own equipment. By only competing with DirectTV, they will never get a larger subscription base.
Why, so people have the option to use Bluetooth headphones when watching TV ? How common could that possibly be ??
How many times does it have to be said: OTA is being developed, it has not been "removed." They released a product ready for the majority of customers, with an upgrade path to add more features later. If they waited until "every" feature was implemented, we'd probably wait another year or more, and people would complain about that. Just wait for any currently missing feature before you move to Hopper, if you move at all.
BTW, they are a satellite company, they don't even have to provide OTA at all. How well has DirecTV historically supported OTA?
Don't most TVs have an antenna input so that you can get OTA without going through your Dish equipment until OTA is released?
There is a simple solution to this...True enough, but removing features that work and people do use, no matter how small they are, in newer receivers is very much DISH's problems. Not to mention all the towns that are still not in full hd on DISH's satellite. Those people can't use the hopper or the Primetime Anytime feature at all .

DON'T UPGRADE.
Most tvs don't come with built in dvrs though. Making recordings of ota over tv only ,pretty much a no go .
As crazy as it sounds, DVR is a luxury not a necessity. I'm trying to understand what is most important to the ones upset about there not being OTA support yet. Is it more important to be able to watch your OTA channels or record the sub channels. For the ones using weather as an excuse to complain about there not being OTA support yet, I don't feel that is a valid excuse. If it's so important just have it connected to your TV.
But one (or two or three people) who bitch about something equals 1-3 complaints about feature "x" (or lack of feature "x"). They aren't taking multiple complaints from the same person or people and accumulating them !After all you said DISH is reading these threads and wants our input about their new receiver.
I guess I just don't find it to be such a big deal because most customers do not want to get Dish because of OTA. They want satellite service at a good price. The only reason I say all of this is because I'm like you guys. I love having the OTA module in my receiver. I have an antenna and like to have it for severe weather. I live in the midwest so it's important to me. Not having OTA in the Hopper really doesn't kill it for me because I know I can still see my OTA channels on my HDTV and the sub channels really are not that important to me. With PTAT it helps even more with the recordings.
I guess I'm not that upset because I'm optimistic that OTA will be available this summer and I'm looking forward to the more important feature too much to wait. I'm getting it right away. If it doesn't live up to what it's suppose to be I won't be upset, it's just TV.
