First off after a year of owning an hdtv and only being able to recieve 2 hdtv
OTA channels i finally broke down and bought a vip211(woohoo).I am absolutely loving my hd gold package i cant believe i missed so much. I installed a dish 500 to pick up 129.Surprisingly i got a signal pretty fast and i range from the 30's to 50's on 129(is this normal for oklahoma?) while another d500 pointing at 110 and 119 is roughly 70's. My question is with the new 129 satellite on the way how big of a boost in signal are we to expect out of this new satellite, because im already seeing the wobbling of this poor beast of a satellite. Will ciel 2 get the signals to closely match 110 or 119? or is it anyones guess at the moment. thanks again for any help or comments.

The replacement satellite (Ciel-2) has transponders that actually are slightly less powerful than the existing failing satellite (EchoStar 5). (100 watt vs 110 watt)

But, as you say, the wobbling is a big problem.

Also, the satellite antenna is designed for both Canada and the USA, so the extremely low signal in the NorthWest and NorthEast, should be corrected.

EchoStar 5 was designed for 110 West, so its footprint at 129 West does not accurately cover the USA, and its wobble makes that situation much worse.

So, we should have "relief" in about a month.

Insignificant, everything else being the same, you need double the power for any noticeable signal increase and 10 times the power for twice the signal strength. Ciel-2 probably has better antennas so I am expecting improved signal strength.

Dang i was hopin to get more of a solid signal like 110 or 119 out of 129. cause i def lost signal the other day probably a wobble plus its been weird weather out here as well. prob 129 biggest flaws is its so low my sat looks like its pointing at the ground almost. i prob do have some interference somewhere but ill wait till new 129 gets up before i do any moving around etc. Thanks guys.

You will be happy. Both the Ciel Conus and Ciel Oklahoma spotbeam should be equal or measureable higher in Oklahoma than either 119 or 110 Conus. The 110 Oklahoma spot beam will continue to be measureaable stronger. Ciel's highest power spotbeams cover Florida where they need extra power for rain fade.

thanks nelson for the info!!! yea i get 110 a lil better than 119 and the spotbeam our locals Were on on 119 i always had back then a 125% signal i miss that spotbeam. but it usually takes a good storm to kill 119 or 110 so im safe. good to hear bout 129 though looks like i wont need to move it after all.(woohoo!) very nice coincidence that i upgraded to 129 2 days after they launched new satellite couldnt be happier.the 211 was a pain though it wouldnt tell me azimuth or elevation for 129 i just guessed and it finally worked.

I use an old 18in Dish 300 for 129 with a Dish 500 for the other two at our lake house at Gibson and my office in Broken Arrow. My lowest transponder strength is 34 on 129. I think I have 3 transponders that kind of waver between 33 and 35 the rest of them are in the mid 40's.

Unless I get hard rain, it has been rock steady. It does drop down with heavy clouds, like today with all the misting rain and ice. I am getting 31 to 32 on the low ones and 40 to 42 on the others.

well howdy osu guy stillwater here lol. Damn OU(oh well). i just checked my strengths must of wobbled today lowest is 30 highest is 51 so im definately not movin that thing. thanks to all who helped i was just unsure how good of a signal that was for mr wobbly 129. Dang that calculator would of come in handy def use it next time. i knew it was lower and more to west luckily i hit it thank god.
