ANIK F2 - Thy End Is Near

Just received an e-mail about the changes overnight, which included this link about possible disruption and solutions: https://www.shawdirect.ca/english/maintenance-notification/

My suggestion to all those who only get F2 (since the two channels they suggest to use are on G1) would be to leave your receiver overnight on one of channels that has already changed modulation: 259, 260, 262, 404, 444, 446, or 453.

Hopefully, that will avoid any disruption, good luck!

The link gives better information than the e-mail which was this:

"On November 29, from 3:00 AM ET to 6:00 AM ET, your satellite services will be undergoing maintenance. Once complete, you may need to take action to restore your services and make sure your regularly timed Reminders and Recordings go off without a hitch.

"So you don t miss a thing, after 6:00 AM ET, tune your Shaw Direct satellite receiver to channel 265, then to channel 741 and wait for at least five minutes. Please confirm you re receiving picture and sound. If you're not, visit here (link provided in above post) for more troubleshooting tips.

"If your Reminders or Recordings were affected by the maintenance, many of your favourite shows are available on Shaw Direct On Demand or on-the-go with the Shaw TV app."

Just an update, 18 transponders on F2 had their modulation changed overnight. I left one receiver on an F2 channel that had already had its transponder's modulation changed, and one receiver on a G1 channel. Both receivers were fine this morning, no problems with the changes.

As with the previous change in modulation, saw an increase of approximately 10 on the transponders that changed.

I wonder if this dorked my WGN Chicago news recording early this morning around 7am?. The recording was not complete 4 hour clip. Noticed that transponder it's on did go QPSK, when I don't know. As mentioned signal went up quite a bit. 741 is good for me, however I should have paid more attention in my highschool French class. C'est seulement la télé

Yes, it might have messed up your timer. They were to have started at 3 am, and since they had to change 18 transponders they may have gone past 6 am. As well, then your receiver has to receive the new modulation information for the channels.

If this helps out until F2 completely craps out, this is a pretty genius idea in my opinion. Now if only G1 was this hot down south, then rain fade might be less this spring and summer.

Of course that cannot happen.

Where has it been raining in Spring and Summer? I had 29.21cm during that entire period and most of that came in April and October.

I know it can't happen Capt. Obvious!. It was a small joke, but it must have not been amusing to you. Oh well.. Where has it been raining?. That's is a question that I will let you figure out....

Wonderful Keith! I left my receiver on 259 overnight and did a refresh when the S.D. site came up this morning and I'm back in business. Thank you so much!

I am down south in california and lost all signals yesterday......tried the suggestions above but nothing........any ideas......
There are several other options to try in this thread:

As a note, before doing any of the unplugging, re-sets, re-boots, etc. listed, I would leave your receiver on one of the above channels which modulation changed prior to the recent massive modulation change, namely,
259, 260, 262, 404, 444, 446, or 453. Also check whether you are getting any signal on them. As well, try leaving it on one of those channels for a while. Good luck.

Keith..........getting 25 to 26 on 260 and up for strength............259 only one has any ........so will leave it on 453 tonight........let you know......Thanks

25 to 26 is too low for strength. I don't understand what you mean by "259 only one has any". Has any what? Strength? If so, leave it on whatever channel has the strongest strength (though they all should be the same strength as they are the same transponder).

Also, try the following channels for strength, 158, 182, 226, 244, and 317

EDIT: And to be sure we are looking at the same information (as posted earlier in the thread):

Press the red "A" button, then Settings Menu (looks like a gear), then Status (far right), then System Status, which will show the tuner Signal Levels, and then press the red "A" button (Tune in Satellite Signal).

This screen will not only show the signal quality, but also the satellite as well as whether it is PSK8 or QPSK. Type in a channel number to see the signal/modulation for that channel. Each time you enter a channel number, it switches tuners.

Keith......left it on there overnite and it worked.........all up and going again. It's a xmas miracle...........Thanks for your help and support. Much appreciated...........25...26 was good enough. What I meant by one on 259 was strength on only one feed....zero on the other. The rest had same strength on both feeds.....running a 630.

Excellent news that it came back!

What size dish do you have, the 60e or the 75e?

From what I have seen from other reports from your area, your signals are quite low. I would say you do need to adjust your dish.
