America's Got Talent Season 5

It doesn't really matter which 5 went through this week, because the 5 that are going in next week will probably be the same 5 that go to the final round. Next week's group is a much more talented group.

I am beginning to wonder if Poppycock could end up the winner this year. So far he has done very well. I wonder though how he could do in a Vegas show. Could he change outfits fast enough, they are all so complex looking. He has the voice and the showmanship to pull it off, and for now the one I think could do it.

I see either Poppycock or Jackie taking it all. Both extremely talented.

First Group of Five Finalists

It doesn't really matter which 5 went through this week, because the 5 that are going in next week will probably be the same 5 that go to the final round. Next week's group is a much more talented group.
Which acts are performing next week (I've lost track with all these YouTube performers, acts given an 2nd chance, and a performer or two brought due to a someone dropping out of the competition. AMG is finally getting some good ratings...and they are milking it (too much so).

Anyway, the first group of five are:

Anna and Patryk
Christina & Ali
Taylor Matthews
Michael Grimm
Prince Poppycock

The only contenders for the Million Dollars in this group are Grimm and Poppycock in my opinon. But what do I know...

Which acts are performing next week

* Alice Tan Ridley, Singer
* Debra Romer, Singer/Musician
* Fighting Gravity, Blacklight Performers
* Haspop, Popping Dancer
* Jackie Evancho, Singer
* Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, Extreme Cyclist
* Maestro Alexander Bui, Pianist
* Michael Grasso, Magician/Illusionist
* Michael Lipari & Ashleigh Dejon, Aerialists
* Murray, Magician/Illusionist
* Nathaniel Kenyon, Singer/Musician
* Studio One Young Beast Society, Dance Troupe

The five will come from the 6 bolded ones, IMO. All six are better than most of the top five from the other group.

Thanks Dodger! Here is my take on this talented group of performers:

Alice Tan Ridley - best subway singer bar none but I don't think she'll win it all
Debra Romer - the girl next door but lacks the pipes to backup the cuteness (may actually get voted through)
Fighting Gravity - same situation as ArcAttack but they play well for the television audience
Jackie Evancho - little girl with a scarey huge voice!
Jeremy VanSchoonhoven - I like this guy but must hit all tricks and pray to advance
Maestro Alexander Bui - world class but will America vote for a Pianist over this talented group
Michael Grasso - best Illusionist ever on AMG
Lipari & Dejon - excellent aerialists but don't have a shot of advancing with this group
Murray - in the same league as Michael Grasso
Nathaniel Kenyon - good...but there are two better singers on the stage
Studio One Young Beast Society - won't advance due to keen competition

Ridley was strong, but I am convinced there are better singers in the group; Haspop's act had no pop; the Maestro is quite skilled, but the American public won't get him (note Howie's buzzer); Lipari & Dejon won't be voted through; Grasso was really good...but I don't know if he will make the top five; Debra Romer's performance was really nice, but she won't make IT through. At the half-way pointin tonight's who I liked Maestro's performance the best.

The bicycler has quite an act even though he messed up on the benches. I was surprised Piers didn't buzz him. He deserves to go on. The dancers were good but I don't see them going through.

Gotta agree with Piers on Murray. It was quite a trick, but Michael Grasso's was more WOW.

The little opera singer is in a class by herself. If she doesn't go through somethings not right!

Studio One was entertaining, but there was anything original about their act IMO (however they'll probably get voted through because the judges were fawning all over them; the bi-guy was fantastic (yet again!) even though he slightly messed-up the benches - I hope he gets voted through; Nathaniel Kenyon never should have made it this far - Piers and Howie were right and he is probably the weakest singer of the bunch...but the teenage girls may just put him through; Murry's act was huge, but he talked to much and he didn't have a David Copperfield-like presence; Jackie Evancho's performance was nice, but she definitely has some problems in lower frequencies (a maturity thing) - but everyone loves the cute girl; fighting gravity was really good and has some original stuff.

Disappointed in a lot of acts tonight. They should have been a lot better. Grasso's was a bit too obvious to me.

Jeremy the biker impressed me. I try to think with each act if I could sit through 90 minutes of them in a full Vegas show. I wonder if Jeremy could live through 90 minutes of stunts.

I liked Murry's stunt better than Grasso's, but his talk was a bit boring.

Jackie Evancho's was good again.

Fighting gravity again had a good performance. I could see a 90 show by them.

My predictions...

Alice Tan Ridley - solid performance will get voted throug
Debra Romer - like I said before...she lacks the pipes to backup the cuteness
Fighting Gravity - good original act that played well
Jackie Evancho - America's newest sweetheart
Jeremy VanSchoonhoven - I really like this guy and his stunts
Maestro Alexander Bui - world class...hope he gets voted through
Michael Grasso - best Illusionist act
Lipari & Dejon - don't have a shot of advancing
Murray - great trick, poor stage presence
Nathaniel Kenyon - no way does he deserve to be voted through
Studio One - judges loved 'em, but I don't think they will advance

The first three acts are no-brainers, but four acts have a good shot at the 4th and 5th slots...not sure if Grasso or Bi-Guy will make it.

If I had to choose acts to go see in Vegas, I would go see Poppycock, Fighting Gravity, or Jeremy VanSchoonhoven.

I do not think either magician would be worth a Vegas show. Ridley had a good voice, but I would get bored with her. Jackie Evancho has a good voice, but I would also bore from the performance.

My thoughts:

Alice Tan Ridley: Meh.... Good singer. Will make it to the Final but did not knock my socks off.

Haspop: BUZZZZZZ... I like hip-hop and popping, but this act was just plain weird!

Maestro whatever pianist: BUZZZZZZ.... missed as many notes as he hit, but he may make it to the final.

The Aerialists duo: Good entertainment. But can you watch something like this for 90 minutes in a real vegas show? May make it to the finals

Michael Grasso (magician): Saw how the trick was done. Th camera cut to the cage masked it a little, but it was very obvious. Nothing new. Still I think this will make it to the final

Blonde lady singer: BUZZZZZZZZ.... She was at the bottom of her range where she was just flat and never even came close to making me pay attetion.

Studio One hip hop dancers: Meh.... Even though the dance was choreographed it looked like a bunch of hopping around and the moves that they did do were masked by the glitz and their wardrobe (camoflaged then against the set).

Biker Dude: Blew the stunts at the beginning of the act BUZZZZZZ. I don't care about the life story or what happened. When you go to a show, you don't give a rat's ass about the back story of the act. You just want to be entertained that moment. Again, can you watch this act for a full length show? My answer is no. Still he may make it to the finals.

Dude with the Justin Beiber doo: BUZZZZZZ... Flat, lifeless and non charismatic performance. This guy does have a voice, but it did not show through here.

Other Magician dude: [in my best Homer Simpson voice] Boooorrrrinnng!!!

Kid singer with voice of 30 y/o: Bad choice of song. Felt "off" most of the time and couldn't get all the sylables out. Still she will make it through to the finals.

Fighting Gravity: My favorite to win it all! Love the act. However poor choice of camera angles revealed some of the "magic" of the act. This is one act when a static shot of the stage was really required for home audienced to get the full effect the entire time.
