Am21 for new hd dvr install

How do I get the installer to bring a am-21 for my hd dvr considering hd locals are not provided and my tv doesn't have a atsc tuner. Yes I realize that according to direct tv it's like the only tv out there that doesn't have the atsc tuner built in. Thanks

The installers do not have AM21 tuners. You need to order it directly from Directv. With enough persistence you may be able to get it free (otherwise $50).

Trust me you're not the only one that has a TV without an atsc tuner. I have a Mits 48413 rear projection with an atsc tuner. I have to have the AM-21 to my HD OTA.

I'll keep my RP until it either blows up or I get a free 103" flat panel. That's how much better I think the PQ is over an LCD, Plasma or DLP. So I deal with having a second piece of gear sitting on top of my HR-21. No big deal.

And like Bob say's, call D* and order one. To me it was worth the the coin.

Yes, with the AM-21 connected you can record OTA, up to 2 OTA channels at one time (it's 2 concurrent recordings from satellite and/or OTA).

I contacted my local installer and the AM-21 will be included free! Has Direct talked about removing the 2 concurrent limit? I know on the VIP-722 with Dish you can record 3 programs at the same time.

No, but you can have 2 concurrent OTA channels, unlike Dish.

That is a nice feature that I wish Dish had.

When I talked to the installer, they can't tell me which HD DVR that I'm getting. If I have a choice when they install, are there any major differences?

The HR20 (you probably won't get this model) has OTA included.
The HR21 has about 50 hours of HD recording capacity and no OTA without AM21.
The HR22 has about 100 hours of HD recording capacity and no OTA without AM21.

On Direct's web site they don't list the model number just "DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR", I'm guessing this is the HR21? Why don't they just list the model numbers?
