Alex Rodriguez tests positive for steroids and now ADMITS it

I do not believe Alex told the entire truth. I find it very hard to believe any top flight athlete would not know what goes into his body, especially considering the money he was making and would still be able to make. While I do believe these drugs help improve performance in some aspects I do not believe it would help hit a baseball. After all while power records were falling other hitting records remain. I still think hitting a baseball is the most difficult thing to do in any sport. I also think the drugs allow them to play and perform better through injuries and allows them not to miss as many games. What I got from Alex tonight was, I am sorry I got caught, and this is what I need to say to not totally bury my career. He didn't need the "edge". That is the sad part of the whole thing. Bonds, Palmerio, Clemens, did not need these. I wish we could get past this issue and discuss the game most of us love so much. There is blame to go around on this issue, from the owners, the union, the players, GM's, and so forth. But, it is hard for a lot of us not to wonder if he is still lying and why should we believe him at this point? The next question is what will baseball do now? How or what can they do to move past this? Do they release the rest of the names? I somehow wish this issue would just go away but ti will not as long as names are released one at a time.

LMAO! You guys are something else, NOTHING short of an apology would be accepted.....he gives you one...AND admits FULL responsibility...and you guys go full hypocrite with make statements like "It drives me up the wall to hear people/athletes using that lame "I made a mistake" excuse".... and some agreeing to it. Tell me, if someone you cared for made a huge mistaken....you NOT ONLY want them to apologize to all the people he/she possibly hurt in their mistake, but OWN UP TO IT also.

I have seen this guy give a ton of interviews, and every single one looked and sounded COMPLETELY scripted.....this one, he had to think and pause for alot of answers....his has was against the wall and he did THE ONLY OPTION he had.....tell the truth.

...he did that...end of story! It's time to move on and try to fix baseball's image.:(

...amazing how some people want something...they get it and it's STILL not enough to satisfy their blood lust for some kind of revenge.....
Sorry but it wasnt a mistake made by a young dumb kid as he claims. It was cheating and fraud. He and everyone caught should be made to refund all earnings made while on steriods, all records of their performances erased and they should be banned for life.

Remember that McGwire originally said he had been taking some kind of steroid precursor at a doctors instruction to aid in healing an injury which eventually metamorphosizes into a steroid. But of course, he was doing a lot more than that: before and after.

What did A-Rod start doing in 2003 after he knew that testing would begin? DId he use a masking agent? Did he resign himself to taking undetectable growth hormone?

I'd say that the Yankees should trade him to LA, where they can afford him and he won't be razzed as bad as he would be in the Northeast. Them they could sign Manny to replace his offensive production.

Did you see the comparison of A Rod's stats with steroids and without? If you ever wanted proof of what advantage you get by juicing this was it. A Rod claims he only used during his 3 years in Texas. Granted he was a good player before that and good in NY too, but his stats from the Texas years were off the charts. He was averaging over 50 HR's a year and barely averaged 40 HR's in Seattle and NY.

And remember that those Rangers teams were horrible. They finished in last place every year. The teams A Rod played on in Seattle and NY have been very good. Point is good hitters on bad teams usually get less good pitches to hit because teams pitch around them. Hitters on good teams get more opportunities because teams have to pitch to them. Given that A Rod's numbers should have been worse when he was in Texas yet they were better, significantly.

C'mon, Salsa, read between the lines. I didn't say that he said that he got them from GNC. He said that when he found out that he had tested positive, that he had no idea what it might have been. Gammons told him it was testosterone and Primobolan. You don't get that stuff over the counter, and never have been able to. Since Rodriguez mentioned GNC a number of times during the interview, I used that as sarcasm. Also, I wouldn't exactly lump Selena Roberts with an everyday paparazzo. She's a respected reporter, and A-Rod made some pretty wild claims about her that would be easily provable if they had happened. Look, as a Yankee fan, I pulled for Rodriguez when everyone else was down on him. I hated it when he let Jason Varitek punk him a few years ago. But, I still don't think he came entirely clean, and it won't change the fact that he did the same thing as all the other players being vilified did -- apology or not.

What ELSE do you want from the guy...he admitted that he took performance enhancing drugs....and he apologized...he told us why he did it.....do you also want his kids? How about his houses or cars? I mean I guess the phrase, "just tell us the truth" ain't enough in today's society.....you HAVE to include punishment or some sort of revenge.

This is what happens when people make heroes out of someone just because they can hit a ball, make a basket or throw a touchdown pass.....they are only human and make human mistakes.

Alex is saying that he used something and he didn't know what he was using? He's not telling the truth. As for Selena Roberts, She is telling the truth . Arod is making up lies about her.

Oh and by the way, your little story about him making up stories about she trying to break into his home.....guess what, it was CONFIRMED by Miami Beach police that she tried to force herself into Star Island and was stopped be the security guard at the entrance to the island and was escorted OFF the island by Miami Beach police without incident....this was on the local WSVN Fox affiliate here in Miami about 20 minutes ago.

...so there goes YOUR credibility and hers....

A few things about your statement. I can see you point about not knowing what was going in....but these athletes give their full trust to these trainers about HOW to take care of the bodies. Like I said, he might have taken a whole bunch of other sh*t that he did not know what might have been going into his body. I agree that he said what he said but I think he also realized what the others DIDN'T DO and they are nowhere to be found....like in witness protection...BUT, if you think this would bury his career, your crazy! His skills were going to SUDDENLY degrade to the point that he becomes a journeyman infielder...HIS legacy YES....his career....hardly.

The last three years in Seattle, he hit 42, 42, 41 homers and didn't play anything more than and only played 161 games once in those last 3 years....in 2000...148, in 1999....129 and 1998, he played 161. So he would have hit MORE than 50 easily IF he had played 155 to 160 games.....prior to the 161 games, he played NO MORE than 146 games....hitting 59 homers all together. SO, if had averaged 155 games...he would have had NO ISSUES hit atleast 45 homers per season....so you statement is not THAT black and white. After he joined the Yankees, he average about 42 a season. So it makes perfect sense that it was just those years.

....my point being, with all things being equal....if he had played something close to a full seasons IN Seattle, he would have EASILY averaged at or over 50 homers a season.

I'll give A-Rod some credit for doing what Clemens never did- ADMIT what he did.

Remember last year when the big circus over Roger Clemens and his steroid use went all the way to the Supreme Court.

A-Rod at least had the guts to admit that the report was truth; I couldn't possibly imagine him taking Selena Roberts to the Supreme Court.

Consider:

Clemens has not thrown a major-league pitch since the 2007 ALDS; A-Rod will at least play half of the schedule.

When the doctor gives me some medication to take, guess what i do? I ask what it is, what is it supposed to do, and what are the side effects. You are an idiot if you just blindly taking medication from a nurse, doctor, or trainer without asking those questions. I respect that he came out and answered a few questions about this topic. You are correct, that is more than what some others have done. But,do you not think he did this to save his career? Do you not think he saw what has happened to MM, Clemens, Bonds, Palmerio, Petitte, and others, and thought, crap, if i don't do something there goes my hall of fame spot? That is what I mean by burying his career. Will he still be able to perform, probably. But, who knows what kind of fan reaction he will be subjected to and along with the increased media attention he will receive in every city he travels to who knows how he will respond. If his history of playoff performance is any indication of how he performs with increased scrutiny, he might have some issues. More than anything else today was the first day he tried to save his hall of fame entrance. Sorry, i don't think he was successful.

Because we all know YOU never made mistakes at 25....you knew EVERYTHING that there needed to be known in life....

Selena was interviewed on MLB tonight and they had a copy of the police report which seems to totally back up her version of the events. If that is so, it is another lie he is caught in.

I am sure he KNEW it was a steroid, but maybe he didn't what type it was or the name.

He obviously did this to save his LEGACY....is career is fine because he will not be traded or released anytime soon. And you last comment about whether he saved his Hall of Fame credentials....you don't know because is probably will NOT be eligable till somewhere around 2020-2023....what makes you think that the folks THEN will have the same criteria they have now...???

In YOUR eyes he may not have been successful in saving his chances in the hall of fame....in MY eyes it was a start....but none of our opinions means squat because neither of us vote.

Then I guess the spokesman for the Miami Beach police department was lying.

He stated she requested entrance to his home on Star Island which has only ONE ROAD to get in and get out at the entrance of the island. They asked her if she was expected, she said no and they told her she must leave....the security guard told the Miami Beach police she refuses to leave private property and she was tress passing. The Miami Beach police showed up and escorted OFF the island without further incident.

I'm a Yankee fan who hopes this dies down by the time the season starts, and I also hope A-Rod has another MVP year like he did in 2007...except in the Fall too.

But I thought he came off sounding very disingenuous in the interview. He went miles past what Clemens and the rest of the dopes did by admitting to it, but he always seemed to be pullling back. He tried to play both sides of the fence, by saying he did something bad and was wrong, but also playing the 'I don't really know what I took' card. That doesn't work. Andy Pettitte didn't do that.

'Gene Orza told me in 2004 I have have tested positive for steroids, but I also may not have.' What on earth does that mean? And of course, he never bothered to find out. Yeah, right. He's just covering his bases, because right now he doesn't know what further information will come out about his conversation with Orza.

So many of his words seemed carefully chosen so that in case somehow the report he is on the '104' list is refuted, he can come out and say he never actually took steroids. He didn't know what he was taking, it turns out it wasn't steroids at all.

And also, in case it comes out that he tested positive again, or tested positive for other substances, he was vague enough so that this wouldn't be another 'Katie Couric' moment.

Watching him lie to our faces in the Couric interview makes me not believe him in this interview. Somewhere down the road he may rationalize what he said to Gammons, just like he rationalized what he said to Couric.

I think A-Roid's stats from the 2001-03 season should be striken from the records. He cheated and took illegal drugs, which he should go to jail for by the way.

You can only do that if you know exactly what each and every player was taking each year, and you adjusted everyone's records accordingly.

I agree with this. Taking and injecting what a trainer tells you to take, without even asking about it, sounds ludicrous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most trainers aren't even doctors, are they? What certification do you need to be a trainer anyway?

I'm hardly a top flight athlete. But I am a triathlete, and what goes into my body both during training and during a race is something I pay strict attention to because it's very important. I have it timed almost to the second what to ingest when, based on how my body has reacted to it in the past. Whenever I change something in training I closely monitor how it makes me feel.

A professional athlete's body is his or her tool for making a living. Some of these guys think we're stupid enough to believe anything, as long as it can't be proven false.
