AL East 2010

In fairness to the Red Sox, I think it was specifically written into Damon's contract that there were only eight teams that he could be traded to, and therefore, there were twenty-one teams that were not on that list.

That's not as condemning as the revelation a decade ago that a lot of black ballplayers had it in their contract that they could not be traded to Boston and maybe just one or two additional cities but could be sent anywhere else.

I think that Detroit might have hoped it could do what Baltimore has done recently, which is to save a few bucks at the end of a losing season and pick up a low level prospect or two and then buy Damon back for next year.

Damon may end up staying in Detroit next year, although I don't want him in the field.
I do like his presence on the team.

The Tigers could also trade him over the off season as well.
Johnny said to Dombrowski that he would go IF it helped the Tigers (prospects).

Like any no-trade clause Damon could have waived it, but he wouldn't.

Damon signed a 1-year contract with the Tigers for 2010. He will be a free-agent at season's end, so the Tigers couldn't trade him then.

Does anyone here think that giving John Lackey a five year/ $80 million contract was a good idea?

He blows. He has not lived up to any expectations. Don't expect him to be any better next year.

Absolutely not!!!

I also thought giving Beckett a multi-year deal wasn't the smartest move either.

This ISN'T revisionist history on my part.

Lackey is 12-8 and you guys are complaining ....... sheesh.

Verlander's 14-8 and no one else has more that 10 wins on the Tigers staff.
Better yet, Scherzer has 10 wins and the rest are all 7 and under.

You've got 3 guys with 12 or more wins.

Sorry, I guess we've become accustomed to competing at a higher level. You know, high expectations and all... :)

If you think THAT (with a high 4 ERA) is worth 5 years at $14+ million per, more power to ya.

Wait a minute, it sounded like you guys didn't want John Lackey on your team, period .... didn't know it was a money dump situation that you want to get rid of him.

Verlander is 14-8 with a mid 4 era making 12 M I think.

Remember, ya don't pay the big dollars, you don't get the guy .... the yankees do.

The Yankees already have John Lackey, they call him AJ Burnett.

I guess that's why some guys can't hack it in Boston or New York because we actually care if they suck.

Verlander would be getting criticized in Boston with those numbers.

These guys are the reason the Sox are not in the playoffs.
