AL Central 2010

Heyward / Boesch

Rated rookies

Atlanta rookie Jason Heyward is going to be voted to start the All-Star Game, while Detroit rookie Brennan Boesch is questionable whether he'll even make it as a reserve. Yet, there stats are comparable.

Player, pos. G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG
Boesch, OF 50 185 24 64 14 3 11 39 16 37 .346 .399 .632
Heyward, OF 69 251 41 64 13 3 11 45 42 67 .255 .371 .462

From The Detroit News: Top-tier rookies ready to face off as Tigers take on Braves | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Boesch has played 19 less games.

Considering Boesch started 3 weeks later than most rookies, I'd say more than comparable, but He also plays in an OF rich AL..

I'm not expecting him to make the ASG, just nice to see him get a little pub, seeing he's worthy of it.
Heyward has gotten all the pub till recently.

Should be a nice series where we can watch both of these up and coming stars.

Tigers ran out to a 6-1 lead and are doing everything they can to give this one away.
They have also been recipient of a lot of bloops dropping it tonight, but they all count and look like a line drive in the box score.

edit:
Tigers hang on to win tonight 6-5.
Jose Valverde came in and made things look easy.

We tried very hard to give that one away.

Fortunately, they ran out of time.

In other words...a big question mark? Well, it should be interesting to see how well he fares tonight against an experienced pitcher.

Seeing when other teams rookie Starters come up and pitch against the Tigers they usually think he's Cy Young ...... Maybe the Braves will think the same of Oliver.

Just my opinion...it's a much better idea to introduce a rookie pitcher at the friendly confines of Comerica Park than it is on the road against a good Atlanta team. Hopefully I am wrong and young Mr. Oliver will pitch a no-hitter tonight only to have his hopes dashed by a bad call from the 1st base umpire. But perhaps my example is a bit too specific...

Tigers will take 1st place this weekend! (wait didn't I say that before?)

Tom has decided that we will be in first after the W/E, so we may as well start with a WIN !

Then again, your counting on the Twins losing as well and then Wh Sox already won today.

WEEI's Dennis and Callahan to be simulcast live on NESN

Don't look now, but Steve Lavin is making St. John's relevant again
