AL Central 2010

White sox scored two in the top of the tenth (edit: eleventh). Tigers got two on, but none in.

Love Hawk! not one of those boring, run of then mill announcers that most teams have.

well being a White Sox fan you would.
There's a reason why other announcers do some big time gigs in the offseason and he doesn't. I'll give you an example. Dick Bremer here in Minnesota

He calls the game like it should be and doesnt have dorky catch phrases like "he gone" when a guy strikes out and while being a homer to a point Bremer acknowledges both teams. That might be why he does b-ball games for Big10 Network in the offseason. He can be a professional and not like some overgrown kid doing a game on public access like "Hawk" does.

Great example....
I was not near the TV today when watching the Tigers/Sox game near the 8th-9th inning but could hear it and half the time I didnt know what went on.

All I heard was "He gone" which apparently meant 2nd out. When the homerun was hit by the Tigers he didnt say ANYTHING...Stoney had to comment on it after the guy had rounded the bases. Seriously?? He doesnt say anything about the other team and damn near creams himself when the Sox do something decent.

Hawk's a baseball guy, he's announcing on the White Sox TV network, no need to appeal to the opposing fans. Lot's of announcers have catch phrases, jack Brickhouse was " Back, Back , Back, Hey, Hey" on HR's for the Cubs back in the 60's. Harry Caray had catch phrases for the cardinals, Sox and Cubs for years.

And I can guarantee Hawk wants nothing more to do with his winters than to sit in Orlando and play golf everyday. The other sport he he had a (very Short) professional career. Most former athletes who go into the broadcast booth don't do games other than their own sport. Hawk also didn't start as a play by play guy, he was Don Drysdales partner for many years until his untimely passing. They were a great team. Stone is Hawk first good partner since Pacoriek. Hated listening to Darren Jacksonand hate him and Farmer on the radio.

If you listen to him all game, all the time, you'll hear him compliment other teams and other players often. But, when another team hits a 2 out, ninth inning, game tying homer, he will normally reacts as a fan, beacuse he is one. That's why Stone works well with him. If you only hear a few games a year, you won't hear a lot of that.

Also why I really hate listening to other teams broadcasts on EI when Sox home broadcasts aren't on EI. Mostly, they seem boring.

As a fan, I want a homer If I'm watching my teams broadcast. If it's a national broadcast, it's different.

BTW, I was also away from the TV, listening at my desk and I knew exactly what was happening without seeing the screen.

But they also acknowledged the other team. He doesn't (or if it does its very rare).

Today when TB hit a game tying grand slam at least Bremer acknowledged it.
"Bartlett swings and hits a fly ball to left. Young goes back. Tie game"

Detroit guy hits home run and Hawk
"__________________________________________________________________________" nothing.......not a word

I'd disagree that's it's very rare, he normally does say the same thin, albeit in a very low key, solumn voice. Hawk will also assume that the viewer is watching, but he's not the only announcer who does that. I heard the Bartlett homer in the car on XM with the Rays announcers, they went just as nuts as Hawk does in that situation.

I'll agree that he's not for everyone, i know a lot of Sox fans that don't like him as well, just as I know Cubs fans who can't stand Ron Santo.

To not say ANYTHING when the opponent hits a HR to tie the game up is ridiculous.

Good point with Santo ....

WEEI's Dennis and Callahan to be simulcast live on NESN

Don't look now, but Steve Lavin is making St. John's relevant again
