Yea, Fred/Linuxman established the thread two (?) years ago, so we let him initiate the new one.
Just a few days to: Adventures in Dish Hunting 2010
It's a fine tradition, here on the forum.
Some of the best reading around! - :up

Actually George/Gabshere and I started two threads about the same time, but he bowed out on his, and I think the threads were joined together IIRC.

Anywho, I will be happy to start another thread on New Year's Day. :)

i just scored my first c-band dish!!!
10' mesh with a good actuator, a chaparral feedhorn and california amplifier slimline 2 lnb
gain 62db 45 deg kelvin noise temp
is this any good?
and i also got the receiver, its a toshiba trx-80
but it will not move the actuator, when you change sats it shuts off for a seccond and turns back on on the same sat it started on.
i know the actuator is good because i tested it with a 24v power supply.
me and the wife are getting ready to buy a house, so i cant put it up yet.
my landlord is already unhappy with my ku dishes.
i had to reassure him that i would not leave them behind when i left!
i told him he had a better chance of wining the lottery than he had of me leaving them behind.:)

PRIMESTAR Photos! Finally!!!

Post a picture of that prodelin when you can, curious to see what it is. And I agree with you, even if one has to go to the dumpster, I wouldn't want to grab an abandoned dish without somebody's permission, lawyers cost too much.

I finally got the photos!!! Sorry for the delay!!! :o

The PRODELIN is the "round" type with the 2 support arms. It measures about 39 1/4 inches tall by about 36 1/4 inches wide. The plate on the back has the Prodelin name and the following numbers: 0179-197. Is this considered a 1 meter dish???

I also have a CHANNEL MASTER that I assumed was 1 meter until I measured it! It is 43 1/8 inches tall by 39 1/4 inches wide. The back says Part No. 3040642-02 and Mold # 1.OM-02. This must be a 1.2 meter???

The "oval" ones in the family photo are both Channel Masters. The smaller one is 26 1/2 inches tall by 35 3/4 inches wide. The back says Part# 3040975 and Mold# .90x.63-2. The bigger "oval" cousin is 29 3/4 inches tall and 39 3/4 inches wide. The back says Part# 3040865 and Mold# .1x0.7-2.

A buddy of mine works in a shop that made Channel Master "fiberglass" dishes about 20 years ago! I wish I would of grabbed some of the ones they tossed out for no reason! !sadroll

Prodelin looks like 1m, yes. Those oval primestars don't match mine, nor mold # so they are different variants I guess. I have two of them both say 84E on back, less than 1m but still very good dishes. All those should do a good job for fta.

If it's 36" wide, I'd call that a 90cm (or 0.9 meter) dish.
I also have a CHANNEL MASTER that I assumed was 1 meter until I measured it!

No, that's a 1.0 meter dish (note the "1.0m" in the mold number).
(and it's 39" wide)

But they're both exceptional dishes! Be happy you've found 'em! - :up

edit: regarding the elliptical dishes -
...The "oval" ones in the family photo are both Channel Masters.
The smaller one is 26 1/2 inches tall by 35 3/4 inches wide.
The back says Part# 3040975 and Mold# .90x.63-2.
The mold number is the size: .90x.63 meters.
It would perform like a .9meter (90cm) dish.
The bigger "oval" cousin is 29 3/4 inches tall and 39 3/4 inches wide.
The back says Part# 3040865 and Mold# .1x0.7-2.
It should perform much like a 1 meter dish.

To optimize performance, you will want to try and keep the feedhorn that is provided with the elliptical dishes.
It matches the dish, to get maximum signal recovery.
The LNB can be changed out if necessary, but that's a whole 'nother discussion. :)

I cannot find any other markings on those ovals. I will check again! :)

I thought that I had matching dishes, but after looking at the family photo, I am not sure that any of them are related! :D I did not realize that there are that many, many variations. I have a few more to pick up once I get permission and I am very curious what they are is size and what numbers they have! :up

One is going to get set up at my dad's house and the other is going to the inlaws. (That is what I told my wife when I got them! ;)) My wife says that the dishes should match like bookends when I put them up in our yard. Boy at this rate, I will have bring a lot of them home before I find matching dishes! :D
This might be worse than dealing with a HOA!

Last weekend I found two large dishes ( my first). One is a four piece fiberglass with a feedhorn that says chapparel on it. Measures 10' 6" across. The other is a mesh dish haven't found a name yet, dish measures 10' across. It was raining so I didn't spend any more time than I had to. No receivers just dishes and posts. I don't know if you guys ever thought about it or not, but I removed the posts by using a block of wood and a high lift jack. Similar to a bumper jack. lifted the post right out of the ground! Then used a sledge hammer to bust off the concrete and put it back in the hole. Found another one to get this weekend. Has receiver with it. I will soon have a lot of questions. Thanks for all the info on this site.

Kudos goes to 14Karat

Kudos goes to 14Karat for the heads-up on this Birdview. :bow
I rescued this Birdview and saved it from going to junk dealer. The owner had already made arrangements two weeks earlier for " that ugly thing" to be picked up and taken to the local recyclers. I eventually convinced him that the scrap man wasn't coming back and to let me take it down and haul it away free of charge.
These photos are right after getting it home, I didn't have a camera during the rescue. Again thank you, 14K.

Looks to be in good shape, wonder how it dodged the hail all these years, haha.
Little rust to work on, but a very nice find.

Thats a Winegard Quadstar.

Winegard was a decent dish. I was going to get a Pinnacle (there Cadillac) when I was upgrading in 1989. The Unimesh 12XL won out, because of the intermediate support rings and more gain. Back in the 5 watt bird days we needed every bit of gain we could get.

The Quadstar was a quick put together 4 panel unit. Decent dish though. If they made a 12 foot version I may have had that today still. :)

Great. You look like you will be doing the reed sensor conversion, and it looks like you wil have to fabricate a cover for the motor and gear assembly. Cool
