I believe I've seen a sign on I-85 for Travelers Rest, although I don't get that way much. I have some like minded friends in the Greenville/Anderson area.

It is a nice area right on the edge of the mountains and I have ten acres just ready for a new dish farm. You must be fairly close in NE Georgia.Do you like to fish? Do you have a trailer? Just kidding I can get it up there some how.
Actually I'm in the middle of Georgia, at/near Macon. One of my friends has a Yacht on that lake at the Georgia - South Carolina line, where I-85 crosses it. He's always inviting me to come yachting with him, when he parties, and they have races. But, I have yet to attend, my poor luck.
You must be speaking of lake Hartwell in Anderson county.Very nice recreation areas on that lake.
comptech what kind of camera did you make those pics with? They are crisp, some of the best I've seen on here! Nice dishes, keep us posted on your Birdview re-install.
They were taken with a older Cannon digital 6 megapixle camera. I will get it back out if you want and give you the model. Back to dishes, I wish I could find a place for the birdview here!I spent part of the afternoon figuring out someplace to put it but unless I go high with it it wont work. I don't know of a NPRM with a six inch pole,and even if I did, I would be afraid to put that much weight on the roof.
Maybe you could get a long pole and run it from the ground up beside your trailer, and make it high enough to clear whatever obstacle you may have?
The trailer reference was meant to be a means of transport to my house in SC.My roof on my house is probally 14 feet and a six inch pipe 20 foot long would probally be worth a whole lot more than it is worth. Besides that,even if I did find a pole,thays alot of weight swinging in the wind. The BV deservrs a stable ground mount.
I guess I should clarify the do you like to fish, do you have a trailer.I am offering a vacation in Florida to anyone in the GA,SC,NC area to anyone who would like some offshore fishing and has a trailer to take the Birdview to my place in SC. Or a truck with a 8 foot bed that it will sit in without worry.
I like fishing, or used to. Don't do it much anymore, pre-occupied with other things. Don't have a trailer, but have the truck. But I'm not interested in a trip that far south and back. I must be about 165 miles to the Florida line and maybe twice that to where you are, then back? Plus an extra 200 miles or so north, then back. No thanks.
Birdview on NPRM ?
Look at Linuxman's pictures. He has two Birdviews on his roof, on NPRM's.
Since they're a little strange on what the mount wants to bolt to, I'll assume those are custom or modified mounts.
They use the top of real Birdview poles.
Think they are only 3 or 4 feet high, though.
I know Stogie5150 had too short a pole for his Birdview, and welded an extension onto the bottom.
Then, dropped the whole thing into cement!
My Birdview pole is over 9 feet long, putting the base of the dish around 6'6", or so.
Not sure if that was a stock length, or was maybe lengthened.
The dish was mounted on the north side of the house, and they wanted to see over it.

A friend of mine is bringing me some high tech hall effect sensors and 40 and 32 teeth gears to try on th BV. I know this was discussed in other posts about the disadvantages of a hall effect sensor, but I think these are very high grade.I have known him for twenty years and am still not sure what he does for a living,but I have seen some of his work. I will leave it at that for now,if these parts work I will list part numbers.
Newbie Found a Birdview Solid at closed Radio Station
I have been searching last few days for a first time BUD to setup a new home system... Checked with the local TV station that had a nice CM perf disk, but said it was in use... He told me a local radio station had jus closed, go check what they have in their yard and ask about them... Drove out there, and found a Birdview solid... I hear these are sought after BUDS. Don't know a thing about them, or if its usable, so here are some pics I snapped.

Any of those going up for grabs? If you want the holy grail of dishes, ask for the birdview. Looks like it has already been modified for a more modern scalar/feedhorn/lnb. Any of those look good, after a little soapy water and brush lol.
Edit: just looked again, the birdview is on a fixed mount, might be a little harder to motorize unless you could find a spare H-H for it.

ACradio might be able to offer some comments on the big Channel Master (?) with the four spider legs.
He's got several, and is well versed in their capabilities.
Also, one of our members refurbished one that'd been out in the desert sun 'n sand for a long time, so there's more expertise.
I think your pictures are out of order, and the metal sectional dish has the button hook feed.
Some fellows don't like button hooks, but I'd keep an open mind about that dish and see what else there is to discover about it.
As for the Birdview, if that's just bird droppings and not shotguy dents on the front, it'd be a good choice.
I've seen some at radio/TV stations without the motorized mount, and thought this was the same.
It's certainly missing the motor cover under the top black plate.
But, in one of your pictures, I think I can see the drive gears.
If so, then of the three, this might be the only motorized dish you found. :up

Yea... they are all fixed dishes... there is another HUGE fibo dish... didnt even take a pic of it... I hear they are not that great. I hope to get the owners contact info tomorrow... he is in South Carolina... Fingers crossed with the Birdview.
Are there any posts/articles about what is involved for getting the Birdview solid into action as a dual-band C and are these OK to do Ku with, as opposed to some of the other BUDs?

Yea... the metal sectional has the button-arm... the composite has the spider-arms.
There is a large metal gear under the Birdview. I think the discoloration is jus bird droppings... the station is near alot of open fields... that and acid rain from years I would guess... Can you wet-sand these alum Birdviews to get them smoothe again?
