I have the identical question. I have an Motorola DCT6412 that I would like to use by hooking it up through my Verizon FIOS service. THe box was originally used back when I had Comcast service. The unit has a slot in the front that says "smart card," (I think this is what you are refering to as the security card slot" and a aditional slot in the back that says "pass card." this latter slot looks like it is designed for a card that is about 1/4 inch thick. Is this the place where a "cable card" would slot in?
I am missing the AC cord, and the remote, so I don't want to invest in these parts unless Ive got a good chance this will work with my FIOS system. what do you experts think?

wont work...that box is designed for Comcast only

It would be like me trying to use a Dish receiver on Directv account

You could always call Verizon and ask but like Tony said it may not work on another carrier's system.

I bought a used Cisco cable modem last month and per the firmware I saw on the modem status page it looks like it came from a Cox system but it works fine with Suddenlink. I'm not sure if the cable boxes are set up the same way. I know Verizon at one point (or still may even today) used the 6412 in their fleet for FiOS.

Then again the guide for Verizon is way different than the one any other cable co uses so you may not be able to get it to work any way.

New here... can i please get a little comcast DVR advice?
