Specifically, does anybody have a clue what the five steps in Acquiring Signal mean on DishPro receivers and why it takes so long especially after reboot or power up?

I remember my old DishPlayer 7200, either it received or it didn't. None of this "3 of 5" crap.

Not sure why, but I can tell you it is NOT just on DP receivers - it does it on ALL receivers with the Open TV software, such as the 3800/3900 & 4700/4900 series.

Your dishplayer 7200 did the exact same thing. You just didn't realize it because the screen only said "Acquiring Satellite Signal".

Dish put the "progress" on there as a convience so the user could see they were getting closer.

Just like the progam guide download use to just say "downloading program guide. Please wait or cancel". Now it also has a sliding bar to let you know how far along it is.

Smith, as cryptic as your stuff sometimes is, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Rich88, I figured out what you are saying last night when I hooked up an old 2700. It took a heckuva lot longer than I remember at "Acquiring Signal". Maybe the outside equipment makes a difference too, when I had the 7200 it was legacy SW64, now it's DPP44.

I have been meaning to make a new post on this but since someone else is already inquiring about it I will post it here.

I have been noticing how long it takes for it to go through 0 to 5 before it does the EPG data download. Why on earth is it taking so much longer than it used to? This is SO annoying! I remember when we used to be able to plugin a receiver and it would instantly start showing the programming. Is this due to all this extra encryption they have on the system to verify everything or is it due to all this extra data in the stream now? I really do hope they can get this issue fixed because they surely dont plan on making it take longer and longer to get from 0 to 5. People will start calling in wondering what is going wrong with their satellite because of it taking so long if it takes much longer than it does now.

Look for ESTI documents related to DVB-S.

There are no decryption - just a little of uncompression for EIT stream ( EPG and EEPG for DVR with 110W access ).

So the bigger the EPG and EEPG get, the longer it takes to acquire?

With all the LiLs that thing is lots bigger than it used to be.

filtering yes, but still has to read whole thing to figure what to filter, right?

(oh crap, now I am starting to sound like you too) :D

Why did the installer run cable from 1 dish to another?
