ACC Network

Some (elsewhere) are saying Choice and above in an ACC market, Sports Package needed out of market.

I have it - Choice with Regional Sports Package in Boston market.

And DirecTV has botched it, as apparently has ESPN itself. First, of course, why are we on some website SPECULATING on what package has the channel where? Is not that what the DirecTV website is for? Should it not clearly be written down by those trying to sell it? Do you go to McDonald's and wonder if the Value Meal comes with fries or not? Or does McDonald's have the common sense to INFORM you that it does?

If you go to the DirecTV website and look at the packages, NONE list the ACC Network. F A I L . If you search the DirecTV website, nothing about the channel shows up. F A I L. You had a year. You update the website.

Further, if you go to the ESPN app, it says "ACC Network...are currently unabable on the app... Our team is dillignetly working..." Get a new team. F A I L.

I was in a bar, non ACC state. Lots of Notre Dame followers. Bar owner does not get the channel. Calls. On hold for 15 minutes. First read to out of the "Big Book Of Why The Customer Is Always Wrong" which is DirecTV CSRs telling you that WHATEVER you get on a sports channel is right, rather than pass you to a knowledgeable person. Informed them that it was not showing a game and thus blackout rules babble was BS. Handed off to retension. Told he is supposed to get channel. Handed off to tech. Told to go through a lot of idiocy about red button resets and other things having nothing to do with it. Then told (lied to) that a signal would come through over night to clear the matter, just to get him off the phone. He was upset.

I do not understand why it takes months, if at all, for Directv to put new channels on their website. If you can even find them on that confusing-ass, stupid mess of a website they have now. I would have had something about it on there since at least May.

On a side note. I don't have it with my Xtra package that's well over 100 a month but at work we have Hulu live and yep of course I can watch it on there on a package for under 50 a month. Good job directv

I can't see this channel lasting long if it isn't carried everywhere. SEC had mass carriage across the country on day one. The ACC doesn't have that pull.

The bar owner is stupid, he should know channels like that are extra cost for public viewing and not included in any package no matter how much you pay. They charge $39.99 a month for BTN and $39.99 a month for SECN (only $19.99 a month for LHN, a bargain for Texas fans!) That's printed on his bill every month. So he should know that ACCN would probably be $39.99 and called yesterday morning to order it if he wanted to have it at launch.

Sounds like he must have called the wrong number for service. The commercial service reps are MUCH better than that, at least in my experience. I suppose its possible they were all busy and his call ended up with some residential reps, or they've got worse recently (I've only called them twice this year, but both times they were great)

LHN is still alive and kicking even though it has a fraction of the carriage of SECN. Ditto Pac 12 Network.

ACCN will survive, it just won't come close to the ridiculous predictions of how much it would add to the ACC's earnings. All it will do is take the conference from a tie for 4th place in conference revenue to 4th by itself, with the Pac 12 pushed back to 5th (though they may surpass the ACC in a few years when they renew their contract if they get a bump as often happens, while the ACC made an insanely long contract that runs through 2036)

LHN is one school not a conference. The ACC and ESPN were hoping for full carriage across the country. ESPN most likely priced itself out of the market by wanted an extra fee on top of the $9 it already gets. The ACC doesn't have the fan base outside of the teams. And even then who cares about ACC Football besides Clemson? They would have had a better chance launching this network in time for basketball season.

What difference does it matter when they launch it, basketball season is going to arrive regardless. If that makes people rise up and complain to their providers that they want ACCN then it doesn't matter if the launch is in August or November.

Always hit when the demand is high. Better leverage during peak demand. ESPN could have gotten these operators during peak season with top rates. Now they will be begging to get carriage. That is like the Yankees trying to leverage the Yes network in November. People won't care until April when baseball season starts. The ACC Network won't have any valuable content until November when basketball season starts. This is when they should have launched.

What's your point?

Why does it bother you that I have another sports channel?
It bothers me that ESPN makes money hand over fist and then wants even more to supply this new ACC channel. This channel should be bundled in with the others in the ESPN family. The fact that they have very little carriage proves that they are trying to fleece people even more for this network. They should have gauged the demand before deciding to launch. I don't know if the ACC is big enough to support a stand alone channel.

Their money - their research - their ROI. It's on them, and time will tell.

As for ESPN making money 'hand over fist' - I know they're a drag on Disney's stock price for sure. ESPN's revenue continues to fall each quarter.

I call this morning I got the sport pack free for six months. Fox sport have a acc game on Saturday this year.
