Cable systems and DirecTV are onboard;
DISH Network is missing the boat

Details are pretty much ironed out for the world heavyweight championship fight between WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov and legendary former four-time champion Evander Holyfield, which takes place October 13th in Moscow. The telecast will air live in the U.S. at 1PM ET/10AM PT. The event will be available on virtually all cable systems via InDemand, and via satellite through DirecTV with replays throughout the day. The suggested retail price is $34.95. At this time, the DISH Network (approximately 13 million subscribers) appears to be dropping the ball on the event. "Thus far DISH Network said no, they're not going to handle it," Main Events' Kathy Duva told Fightnews.com. "We've come back to them with another request and we're waiting to hear if they reconsider. We're encouraging everyone to tell them that they would like to see it on DISH. For some reason they're not as excited about this as some of the other systems are. InDemand came to us and said 'we have to do this on pay-per-view.' They were very, very psyched about it. DirecTV was very excited about it. For some reason the folks at DISH, I don't know what, I can't explain it, so we're going at them one more time."

Why should Dish waste the time and money. What, my guess is that maybe three people are going to order that thing!

Every post I have read of yours lately is ripping on Dish. Sounds like maybe you need to switch providers if you are that unhappy.

You have to admit some surprise here, it costs dish bandwith and a portion of what they take in. Dish keeps a cut of what they sell, that's it. How much does a few hours of SD PPV bandwith cost Dish these days.

I also have no interest in the fight, but I'm sure somebody does. Old boxing fans that don't travel to Russia, a niche market for sure :)

The senior tour...
good idea for golf, not so much for boxing.

Not picking up a boxing match on a Saturday morning/afternoon or not adding HD channels for a few weeks do not a "trend" change make. Saturday is the busiest day of the week for what is the true uplink activity.

The so-called "forcing" them to carry TBS HD or the perceived part some may have played in this offering may be a bit grandiose on the part of some.

Those that have not seen or think there is a trend change in my usual uplink activity threads have not been looking apparently. They are there.

Hmmm......take up bandwith to offer a fat overweight washed up fighter ppv event for $35 and piss off all your other season ticket subscribers for college football, hockey and basketball, because you can't offer all the feeds they are spoiled with or just tell in demand to keep their fight?

I don't see that as Dish dropping the ball.

Dropping the ball would be not having NHL Network Channel up live later this month, when D* and all the other cable pigs offering it.

I haven't bought a fight or WWF PPV event in my life, so couldn't care less, and if I wanted to see it so bad, I would take the $35, go to the local casino and mabye get lucky while I watched it for free.

I wouldnt buy this PPV, but there have been other PPV's they didn't offer that I would of got, I dont understand why a provider with plenty of room to carry a PPV not offer it.

And I also dont understand how they dont always offer the HD feed for the UFC PPV's.

also, there was already a thread of someone upset that they couldnt get this PPV, but they had a neighbor with D* that they can go watch it with... so there is some audience.

One reason could be if they require a minimum number of orders that Dish is required to pay for wether they get that many or not.

Boxing died years ago. The sport is irrelevant.
Sport? Two guys kicking the crap out of each other isn't sport.

Heck, use to watch it every day for free, and up close, back in the school days. That was before they put all the kids on prozac.

Good. Thank you Dish. Maybe if more providers refused to show these type of fights, boxing would put together some real fights... not just money makers.

NBA League Pass HD showing up, not ordered.
