A new trend for Dish?

I am not a fan of Boxing either, but it is a one time event (perhaps repeated), so using the BW should not be an issue so for those that are fans the interest maybe there.

I personally do not need to see the news or weather in HD, but again some of you out there do!!

This might be a good time to remember that E* used to give you just a bit more for a bit less $.

Also remember old Charlie is a hard-headed businessman, and it just goes against his nature to do things that don't make good business sense. Therefore, he is seldom in a rush to put up something just because it's new & flashy.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm......take up bandwith to offer a fat overweight washed up fighter ppv event for $35 and piss off all your other season ticket subscribers for college football, hockey and basketball, because you can't offer all the feeds they are spoiled with or just tell in demand to keep their fight? QUOTE]

Evander may be old and perhaps washed up but he is nowhere near fat.

Seeing him fight one more time for a heavyweight title would be nice. I grew up watching him fight wars in the ring. In my opinion, he's the greatest heavyweight boxer of the last 30 years.

Next time Dish decides it's not worth their time showing something you'd all like to see, remember this conversation.

Yeah, I'm sure Charlie was thinking, you want to charge me $$$ million to carry this fight, and I will only make $$ back on it. Plus I have to promote the thing on all my channels at the expense of other things I could have been promoting!

On top of that the title fighter is older than dirt! Heck he was old 10 years ago when he had his ear bit off!

No thanks. Now I have to get back to figuring out my time-share RSNs some more.

Well if you aren't in 18 month committment, you can always switch over to Direct and watch your fight and NHL CI in SD.

OOH! Ya know, that's an awesome point.

The satellite providers should split their businesses into 2 DBAs - one sports oriented and one not. :) That'd make it sooo much cheaper for the nuts like me who just don't care, lol.

I'm fine with playing em. Watching someone who gets paid millions to do the same thing? Eh no thanks.

Sport? Two guys kicking the crap out of each other isn't sport.

Heck, use to watch it every day for free, and up close, back in the school days. That was before they put all the kids on prozac.

I have to take issue with this statement. If we were talking "ultimate fighting" or some such trash passed of as entertainment, then I would agree with you.

True boxing is an art form. Are two people beating the daylights out of each other? Yep, but within very strict rules that make it an art form. And since boxing has been removed from most school athletic rosters, this is NOT something you can see in the school playground. Brawling and boxing are not synonimous.

Now, having said that, *I* would never pay to see this PPV event. I am an avid boxing fan. When senior citizens like Holifield and Foreman come back to earn an extra few bucks at the risk of their LIFE, I blame the boxing commissions for allowing it and the boxing organizations for sanctioning it or allowing a sanctioned boxer to participate.

Right now boxing is in a funk. When it comes to the heavyweights, no one (even the boxing fans) care one hoot. All there russians have not heart and really do not inspire the fans. The true Boxing fans are now looking to the middle weight to fill the void. But since the Golden Boy and Tito retired that was the end of that for a while. There is no spark in the sport. And I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

See ya

It isn't like Dish never has ppv boxing, they do all the time. This is just one fight with the headliner past his prime. Is Don King promoting the fight? If so, I don't blame Charlie for not wanting to line his pockets any more.

Ultimate Fighting. is as much a sport as is boxing. there is so much more to it than "beating the crap" out of each other, your combining the best of Boxing, Kick Boxing, Wrestling and many Martial arts into one sport.

The object is to kick the crap out of the oponent until he cries uncle or CAN'T cry uncle using any means necessary including biting, kicking, scratching, choking...you know... brawling. THAT is what you see on the playground.

I think Boxing started to die long ago when they STARTED doing all PPV matches. I would never pay for one. Especially when the fight can usually be seen the following week on either HBO or Showtime!

I don't blame DISH at all for not carrying it. I'm sure they have a valid reason.. mainly having to do with some sort of Financial reasons!

Like most everyone else said.... "Who cares!" :D
