A&E HD To Launch Wednesday

Any HD added is a good thing, every ones taste is different. I could care less about RSN, but it's important to others. I think they should drop all those music cd channels as they already have others, but someone out there would probably throw a fit as it was their favorite music. Once given, it's hard to take it away.

I contacted our local OTA station to find out why Wheel Of Fortune wasn't in HD, I get it now from Satellite locals after moving @@.. Answer, it's a syndicated show thats recorded and they do not have the budget to buy the HD recorder so this stuff is expensive and changing daily.

Another 12 months, bet things have changed a bunch more.

There's no such thing as HD quality SD. The thing is, the DBS companies have been overcompressing SD for so long that you're finally seeing SD quality SD.

Wouldnt it be nice to go back to the SD DBS picture quality of 1997? Thats when I first jumped into small dishes, and SD channels now are horrible based on my memory. What was Dish running back then, 5 channels per TP?

Yeah well got a E-mail back from Dish which said this below.

""Dish plans to convert the RSN's as well as home sports stations very soon; although, I don't have an exact time line of when that will be completed.""

I came home from work and Crossing Jordan is on A&EHD, IT"S IN SD!! WTF. It makes my 57" TV look like a 52" with black bars on both sides AND the top and bottom. This show is in HD on NBC, so why can't a full time HD channel like A&E show it in HD????

I know what an RSN is but what isa "Home sports station"? A local OTA with a fair amount of sports?

Yeah I was wondering that myself so waiting on response. Will let everyone know what they say.

A&E HD. Watched it a few times tonight.

The name should be changed to LBaPBSDA&EDin16x9. Letter-Boxed and Pillar-Boxed Standard Def in 16x9 format.

In defense of them, they aren't doing the TNT stretch-o-vision. That is very good. :up

But it is not HD.

It is like the Jaguar S-Type auto.

You can put a shiny cat on the hood and slap the Jaguar nameplate on it, but it is still a friggin Ford Taurus with a cat on the hood.

DON'T LAUNCH AN HD CHANNEL UNLESS YOU PLAN ON AIRING HD!!!!!!!!

I whole heartedly agree. Every time I have flipped over they have something that is NOT HD on. We can only hope that this gets better over time.

I was watching city confidential like 6 months ago on directv and saw it was 16x9 on the SD channel, I was watching on a PC. I watched CC today at 7:00 and it was nice and clean. Not HD end-to-end like HDnet, but even the CC intro was sharp and clean. I say 3 stars for average, but better than straight SD.

yep, A&E HD isnt that awesome. I want my MHD, in HD etc. Charlie stop cheaping out and giving us garbage channels man. Give us some good stuff PLEASE!!!!

Is anyone else noticing a lot of judder and/or very poor motion? I'm seeing a fair amount of motion artifacting on A&E.

Oh, the worst is when A&E is showing a program that is framed 16:9 inside a 4:3 window. I saw that for a while yesterday; I forget which show I was watching when this occurred. A decent scaler could easily zoom out the 16:9 region to fill the screen; but A&E should be capable of doing this.

Cheers,

Yes, It looks just like the STarz hd channel did when it first launched. A lot of jittery panning shots. The funny thing is it is in mpeg 2 with only a mpeg 4 header so it shouldn't look like this .

Yeah, what the hell is up with that.

I wish they'd go back to the 10 channels they had before. I miss GuyTV and the Majestic. Even so I watch enough Monsters and Filmfest and Family that I'd miss Voom if it were gone. And my son is a soccer nut so he'd miss that.

I'm surprised that the HD channel I watch the most is probably the Monster channel. Old "classics" in many cases that I've never watched before, like House of Dracula :)

A&E HD channel is mediocre at best, Im sure Dish picked it up pretty cheap! It has hardly no real Hd so its barley a HD channel! Noticed our local cable company picked it up too in HD. I think A&E wanted to get in the HD ring and offered it for a bargain price and so everyone jumped at it! Just my thinking on this, but I'm sure it will get better with time! :)
