722K Screen Shots and Initial Setup Thoughts

Well its not the OTA tuner cartridge. It is the 722k itself.

My wife made me delete all the timers and have the 722k set to record everything off the satellite.

This included my timer which auto tunes the 722k to my local NBC. Since having the 722k every morning when my TV turns on the audio coming from the 722k has been garbeled. Now I have it set to autotune to my local NBC station via the satellite feed instead of off air.

When I woke up this morning I still had garbeled audio. So its NOT the OTA tuning module.

Yes I have hard reset it, unplugged it etc.

Can't you exchange it with E* since it's under warranty. I don't think anyone else has reported this same audio problems, have they?

Finally got something from the Dish folks regarding my issue.

Scott,

We are looking into the issue, thank you for the logs and information you have provided it is very helpful, when a fix is available we will release it in the next available production software.

Thanks again,

I too have noticed that if the 722k receiver is tuned into an ota channel the staticky tin sound . I have had it happen this morning and yesterday morning too. My biggest problem is that the UHF remote won't work more than 20 feet from the receiver. I called tech support and they want to replace the receiver or send a tech out. I said no to both . I tired my old uhf remote control and it too won't work in the other room. It did work the first 4 days I had it and not it to doesn't . I tried to move the antenna higher than the rest , redid the remote control system wizard ,rebooted it and no go. ANy idea why ?

I
It screwed up again last night and my wife is PO'ed.

I had to reprogram all the timers and am not allowed to use OTA anymore until Dish fixes this issue. What concerns me is that Echostar is not replying to my emails about these issues.

Record all your shows on your other dvr, if you still have it and use the 722k as a toy, until Dish fixes it.

I think I should be happy Dish sent me another 722 instead of the 722k with the OTA module, which I ordered. Upon further consideration there is really only one time a week where I would like to record two local programs in HD. Not having locals in HD yet was what prompted me to order the 722k with the OTA mod.

After seeing that my locals are in the Coming Soon list, and understanding it may be some time, I have decided just to return the 722 they shipped by mistake and wait.

Now all I will have to do is call after the 722 has been returned and get my billing square. I'm really looking forward to that/(those) conversation(s).

I was caught in a similar situation. We just got local HDs last month. But I did the 722k thing anyway for the added hard drive capacity (over a 622) and I do find the ability to record even one more OTA input appealing, but not a deal breaker.

Just another point of info on the flakey OTA tuner...

My 722k will not tune the strongest of my OTA signals. The tower is probably 40 miles away. Every other tuner in the house will tune it in; 2 622's, 2 Samsung HDTVs and 2 Olevias. Definitely not a signal strength or quality issue. Since 2003, this is the only tuner to not bring it in. I've had almost every iteration of E*'s DTV tuner. The 722k's OTA module falls short.

What do you expect for $29.95? I'm looking forward to the 922 less every day..

A single OTA tuner was incorporated with the 622 and earlier 722. I don't see $29.95 being relevant at all, for one more tuner channel.
But I agree, if no one reports problems with it, like Scott has, I have no reason to believe the same module would not be used with the 922.

I think the OTA module needs a seperate thread apart from the 722k.

I haven't had one problem with the 722k itself. I have a 1TB HD connected too.

How happy are you with it overall? I do not want see the thread become a bash of 722 DVRs. Everything I've read so far seems to be good with the exception of the OTA.

I really like the groups feature which finally gives you the chance to make folders, this way my recordings go in my folder, my sons cartoons go in his own folder etc.

This featue should be going to 622's and 722's in the future.

Nice job of avoiding usage of the "s" word...

For the Groups feature, can you move existing recordings there, or do they have to be directed there when you set the timer, or both??
