722K rewind bug

Does anyone else have this problem? When I fast forward too far (after skipping a commercial, for instance) and try to rewind back - the DVR makes a big jump. It jumps back about 1.5 minutes (or about a commercial and a half). Of course, then I have to fast forward again.

Only happens with rewind.

I've had about a half dozen DVRs over the past decade and never had one with a problem that was so annoying. Tried replacing the DVR but the replacement evidences the same behavior.

Thinking about upgrading to the Hopper just to get rid of the 722K.

Yep, known bug. Goes back years. Skip back sometimes does some weird things. I hear it doesn't happen on the Hopper.

It still happens on the Hopper and Joey. I've been accustomed to just slowing down how often I press the button, works alright if I do that.

I never had the skip/rewind problem on my 625, but noticed it right away on my 722 when I upgraded. Is it just ViP and later receivers this problem occurs on?

My 625 back in the day did better with it too. Supposedly I heard it was messed up because of the TiVo lawsuit. I was hoping that they'd fix it after the lawsuit was settled. Most likely the 625 has the same issues as the ViPs these days.

When did the effects of the lawsuit start occuring? I upgraded from the 625 to 722 last August and noticed it right away. Anyone currently with a 625 want to chime in on the issue?

I noticed it when Dish implemented the workaround on my 501. Trick play used to be silky smooth, and it all of a sudden became jerky. When I upgraded to a 625, I saw no change (still jerky). The skip buttons were always inexact after that, but I don't remember the 625 ever jumping back to the beginning as my 722 now does.

Not sure exactly when I upgraded, but it was c. 2005 when a duo cost no more than a solo.

Same problem with my 722. Just upgraded last week from 625. Never had any issues with it. I'm beginning to regret the upgrade.

Thank you for the verification. I had the same experience when I went from the 625 to the 722 a year ago.

I have only noticed this problem if I have the program paused.
If I hit the back button while watching live or recorded it always works fine.
However if I pause the program and hit the back button there is no telling how far back it will go.

This recently became a major problem for me. I had a 509 until about six months ago when Dish said I had to upgrade. I said fine and upgraded to a 722k. No problem until about 2 mos ago when "Skip Back" started working erratically. Frequently went back 2 sec. and often 10 to 60 minutes. Dish sent a replacement and it did the same thing. They sent a tech who replaced it, checked the wiring and said his did the same thing. The third machine did the same thing so I replaced it with a Hopper and it has been rock solid so far. Throughout this Dish maintained that they are unaware of any such problem and that such a problem had never been referred to them. Has there been any recent increase in this problem? Is anyone aware of an installation issue which could cause a similar problem?

If I pause my 722s and then do one or more skip back (-10s each),
I do say 3 skip forwards (3 frames) and it will usually play fine.
This has been around for years.

Once paused almost any movement except a single play will cause a jump (usually) back, small or big--just unknowable--of 1 sec to full program.

As I said the easiest "cure" is to give a few frame advances (skip forward while in pause) before going to play and then to any other moves.
