722k hooking up - please help

Ok so here is what I want to do, how do I do it?

Receiver 722k - 4 tv's

TV1 and TV2 - Basement- watch same programming - I want TV1 to have the HD. TV2 doesn't need HD. In order to get the same programming on TV2, can I split the HDMI or use the RCA output to go to the other TV2. TV2 is about 25ft away from TV1. Or, can I hook up the component from receiver to TV1, then run an HDMI cord out to TV2?

TV3 and TV4 - Upstairs - use the agile modulator - they both can watch the same programming.

Please let me know what is best for hooking up and what will or won't work.

The 722 will output both tv1 and tv2 via the coax output, you would only need to change the channel on the tv to switch between the two outputs. You can run HDMI, component or composite if you like but it is harder to run these cable throughout the house than coax is.

You should note that your info shows you as in Canada, Bell Vu is the provider for Canada and uses similar equipment. Dish is not allowed to supply service in Canada.

Am I missing something, the 722k doesn't have a coax output..... also component only carries picture not sounds correct?

Yes, it does have coax output. It may be marked as "Home Distribution" and is also called agile moderator (you even list it in your original post) . For component, you can either run the red and white rca (also used for composite) or optical digital output.

I looked on the dish website and the 722k doesn't have a coax out.

which means the only way I can split the TV1 singal is to run an HDMI or composite, to the TV2, correct? So I I run a composite to TV2 and an HDMI to TV 1, I can watch both at the same time, same program... one in HD one in SD, correct?

Remember I want TV 1 and 2 to watch the same programming (basement) and TV 3 and 4 to watch the same programming (upstairs).

So say tuner one is set to channel 73 and tuner 2 set to channel 74. TV 2 will be set to channel 73 and tuner 2 will be set to channel 74. Is that correct? So then I can watch different programming on TV 2 and TV 3.....

Home Distribution will output both TV1 and TV2 signals (I think the default is TV1 on ch69, and TV2 on ch60). If you split the home distribution coax to TVs 2, 3 and 4, you could watch either TV1 or TV2 programming on any of the TVs except the first.

Home distribution sends both tv1 and tv2 through one single coax... all you need to do is make sure it's turned on (menu 6-1-5) default channels are 60-62 in air and 73-75 in cable. That way your other three tv's could have the option to display both tv1 or tv2 plus that might be a lot easier then running a long set of rca cables.

I have my 722 in my basement theater. The projector is connected with HDMI and I have a small HD set in the theater that I connect with HDMI as well. I use an HDMI splitter there.

i run component and analog left/right stereo audio upstairs to a third 42" TV.

i also use the modulated rf coax to run the signal to several older small screen SD TVs in various locations. The 722 outputs on cable channel 72. I also have lifeline basic cable for local channels since Dish only provides crappy SD in my market. I mix the modulated channel 72 from the 722 with the cable signal (which has nothing on channel 72), then run that combined signal to a radio shack distribution amp. All TVs in the house are fed from this so the HD sets can receive HD locals from the cable, all sets get analog locals from the cable, and all TVs get the dish signal on channel 72.

It all sounds complicated, and was to wire and set up, but it works great.

Oddly, I can tune the 42" set upstairs to channel 72 and I get a full screen picture that looks darn close to HD! I'm not at all sure how that works, but I like it.

One other point in my case. When I first set this up I had awful audio synch problems on the upstairs TV. I found that if I connected the analog audio cables to the TV2 audio the synch problem went away.

One quick question...

What does the aspect ration and image look like on the HD TVs running off the home Distribution coax? Do you get 16 x 9 or does it show as 4 x 3 with black/grey bars??

Has anyone ever managed to find and tech docs on Home Distribution and if so where can I see them?

4x3 only. Any HD channel will show as a letterboxed image, or you could use the "*" format key on the remote to fill the screen, truncating the sides.

322 can be hooked up in virtually the same manner as the 722k however with the obvious (internal) differences of no HD outputs, no DVR and no formatting options through the receivers.

However, 322 will not work on Eastern Arc (61.5/72.7.77.) Also, 322 only requires 110/119, no 129 required (129 is the HD sat on Wester Arc.)
