I wrote this in the technical forum and received only one response, so I'm writing about it here too. My 722k since receiving L750 software, has been having a problem with watching any recording shows from the beginning . It will work for a few minutes and then it kicks to Live tv. It doesn't happen on any recorded show, just shows that are recording. So every week day I watch Morning Joe delayed and it kicks to live several times until it quits recording. It is like the DISH company never paid Tivo for the Time Warp software that they sued them over. My dad has seen this too on his 722k. I am also getting random video freezes ,slow downs and black screens on certain shows. Yes I have done several different power button and power cord reboots and it makes no difference. I wrote an email to DISH and received nothing back. Has anyone else seen this on their 722ks ?

We had this problem on one of our two 722ks. Later the same receiver also developed a strong pixilization issue (1/2 of the screen heavily pixilized) related to (I think) a failing HDD. That receiver was swapped out by Dish and the problem has not reocurred. All three receivers were at L750. Maybe the two problems are related, maybe not.

I agree. I had the exact same problem when I had a 722 (non-k). After having a fight with a bunch Dish CSRs over the phone, twice, (this happened before DIRT existed), I was able to get an "upgrade" to a 722k. It did require me to to do a 2-year, but I was OK with that. (I just wanted a receiver that actually worked!) Anyway, with DIRT here now, you shouldn't have a problem getting a 722k replacement.

It does sound like the receiver is failing. If you would like details on a replacement, please feel free to send me a PM

I suspected that the hard drive may be failing. I guess I will have to call DISH and get a replacement. I hate doing that cause it will cost me more money to ship it, etc. Thanks for the diagnosis.

Talk to Matt about it don't call.

Well I didn't talk to Matt and I called DISH last night and AGAIN this morning. They generated three exchanges in the last two days, because the first one was for a 211k instead of my 722k ,but to the billing address, which I wanted. The second one was for a 722k but to my service address instead of my billing address . The third one was just right, a 722k to my billing address and they even over nighted it at their expense because of all the trouble. I also got 5 free pay per views for my trouble. It is amazing how much trouble DISH still has just generating the correct receiver exchange . If they would just listen to the customer and repeat back what they heard, a lot of this could of been avoided.

Well just to continue my saga with my replacement 722k. I got my 722k Thursday afernoon , ( the 722k they actually shipped to the right address), and I set it up Friday morning before I went to work. I started at 7:30 am and tried to download the software. Well an hour later it was still stuck in the download stage. I rebooted and tried again, and still another hour of downloading. By 10:30am I called the DISH tech and she said she would activate it on their side and it would finally work. So 45 minutes later it was still stuck downloading. I called DISH back in final frustration and told them to reactivate my old 722k so we would have tv that day and I would fool with the replacement receiver on Saturday when I got time. She was a little testy and told me that it took 4 - 5 hours to download the software. I told her that was total bullcrap . I have been with DISH for over 15 years and it NEVER took over 4 - 5 hours to activate a receiver. So she got mad and told me THERE I activated it! ARE You HAPPY NOW?!! I said Yes , thank you and hung up. So that night at around 9:00pm after I got back from work, I plugged in the 722k in the bedroom again on my other sat connection and left it over night to download . Mind you I had put it in the living room to begin with and unhooked my other one first, then had to unplug it and move the old 722k back in to see working tv.

During the night I had a dream and the answer came to me that morning when I woke up. I am on Eastern arc dish 72.7/77/61.5 sats. The 722k does NOT work with any of those satellites when you first activate it. It will only download the initial software off of 119 sat. I had this happen when I first got a 722k in 2008 after I installed my eastern arc dish. Luckily I have a 1000.2 dish with a triple lnb holder next to my eastern arc dish and I had the 110 sat hooked into my dish . So that morning I went out there and switched the lnb to 119 sat. I rebooted the 722k and within minutes it started downloading the software. Then it wouldn't complete the activation till I called DISH. After telling the tech again that it was on their side & that they needed to fix it on their end, she went and got a supervisor on the line. It seems that having 3 different replacement receivers shipped in one week caused the system to lock up. So they had to delete all of them but one 722k so it would finally activate. So two days and over 6 hours of work, and several phone calls , I got my 722k replacement up and running. I told the tech that they were lucky I have had DISH for over 15 years and that I loved the service, receivers, etc ,or I would of dropped them over this mess. The last time I talked to the techs about eastern arc and the 722k not activating , he told me that DISH worked out this so it wouldn't happen any more. Looks like he lied. So I wonder how many people in eastern arc areas are experiencing this problem when they get a replacement 722ks? Seems very short sighted to only have 119 for the initial software downloads . Imagine how many subs say Screw it and just cancel over this software glitch . So if there are any DIRT people out there, you need to take heed of my advice and tell DISH to make the receivers download initial software with both 119 and or 72.7 sats .

The 722k will download software from either arc (61.5 on EA, 119 on WA)

The way it's supposed to work is to run a check switch test to verify that the proper sats are coming.

After, back out to the point dish screen, and wait for the signal strength bar to show that it's "locked" (note: you may need to change the satellite in the right-hand column). When you select done, it should ask you to confirm, then download software normally.

yep, i have downloaded many hundreds of these on eastern arc, they can be a little tricky, but i suspect you didnt do a checkswitch, resulting in a huge and painfully long experience.

That's the thing. You CAN'T do a check switch any longer with the new Receiver replacement software. It allows you to pair the remote controls with the new receiver on step 1 & 2 ,but it then wants to download the initial software on step 3 and there is NO WAY to go to the menu and run a check switch.
I used to be able to do a check switch and then call DISH and they would turn the receiver on from their end and you were good to go. Unless DISH decides to ship replacement receivers with the latest software and allow subs to run a check switch on step 1 of the activation screen, this will keep happening.

The replacement receiver 7 steps you have to follow to activate the replacement receiver do NOT allow you to run a check switch at all. There is step one & two that allows you to pair the remote controls, tv 1 and tv 2 with the new receiver and then it wants to download the new software and the important information for programming your receiver on step 3. It locks up at this step unless you have 119 in the matrix. This needs to be modified to allow the sub to run a check switch after step 1 and 2 so it will take the software from either eastern arc 61.5 or western arc 119. Without this crucial step being added to the steps , an eastern arc sub will NEVER be able to activate the receiver . Now if DISH wants to ship all replacement receivers with the latest software and initializing software already added , it won't matter. Otherwise they need to allow the sub to run a check switch so they can tell the receiver which arc they are using. This is a flaw in your software on the 722k that has existed since 2008 when I first got a 722k and it hasn't changed in the last 4 years. My dad had a 722k replacement receiver on his account( my second DISH account), that I activated with out issue, because he was using western arc dish that had 119 in the matrix automatically.

The only thing that I can think that may of happened was my dish setup was eastern arc with a 110 side sat dish in the matrix. Possibly the 110 in the matrix confused the receiver into thinking it was a western arc dish without the 119 sat , so it caused the problem. Because the first think it does in step three is check your switch check and then it tries to download the software. That may of been why it was locked up because it saw 110 in the mix and it confused it. I suspect that western arc sats still take precedence over eastern arc sats ,in regards to where it gets its software. So maybe I should of unhooked the 110 sat from the matrix and it would of done the software download on eastern arc alone. So maybe no mixed arc combinations is essential for downloading initial software in replacement receivers.

step 3 on the new software IS a checkswitch. If things arent connected right at that time, you're in for trouble. you might be right about the 110.

You CAN run a check switch after you pair the remotes by hitting *, Menu. This will bypass the wizard and allow you to access the point dish screen.

i have tried that a dozen times and gave up. it takes me to system info. then back to the wizard. not sure why some can access point dish and i cant.

Wouldn't allow me to move past step 3 either. I think if you have mixed arc satellites in your matrix ,it won't work with the download.

i can usually move past step 3, just cant get point dish. if a cable is hooked up wrong or the checkswicth on new software doesnt get the matrix it likes it will post a message saying check your cables. if you are not watching it closely it may give up on this message and go ahead and try to download from 119 feed.
