I've had an external hard drive connected to my 722 for well over a year. It's worked fine -- no issues...it does what it's supposed to do.

I have always plugged into the FRONT USB port, but today -- inan attempt to get rid of the messy cables in the front of the unit -- decided to plug it into the BACK USB port.

It gives me error message #850, telling me I've connected an unsupported device to the USB port.

Any ideas?
Do I have to call Dish to have them authorize the other port?

Try unplugging your receiver what a minute abs plug back in. Once it boots try again. I have had thia problem and soing this has resolved the issue.
