Now I read somewhere that the 722 has a 500 GB hard drive in it?
And that the current satellite HD Mpeg4 is recorded at 4 GB per hour of recording. So if that is true, that's 500/4 or 125 hours of HD recording!!

But obviously a chunk of the hard drive is set aside for the 'on demand' programming. But how much is set aside? If our allowed recording is 50 odd hours of HD that leaves 70 hours of 'other' stuff like video on demand?

Is that right?

If you have the external hard drive (EHD) enabled you can plug in the USB drive and DVR-4-2 (send) to see the size in MB of each inactive (not recording nor being viewed) recording on your internal HD.

You will seldom get better than a factor of 2 better with MPEG-4 vs MPEG-2.

Yes, you did read it right ;) - posted here.
Sort of - I did test non-stop writing MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 channels from empty disk up to the end of space - check it.
Size of the VOD partition [ ES_RESERVED] you can find in the thread. Or use Search for "ES_RESERVED", if you need more info.

Can't find my own posts regarding measuring space/time ratio, so reposting the tables here again.

If you have an HD subscription with a 722 with the G3 card then can you pickup the channels off the 61.5 satellite? Is 61.5 the only one needed to pickup the content? Does 61.5 pick up just as many channels as the HD on 110 and 129?

I, like many of you...

Transponder 23, Echostar 61.5
